EA Drops NCAA Basketball 11

Re: EA Drops NCAA Basketball 11
That someone can now make a legitimate petitions....
EA holds the license but will not be making another College hoops game(unless they bring back college hoops slam{college version of NBA Jam})
Hopefully EA will drop the license and we as consumers can hope that the NCAA drop the cost of the license and wish someone will pick it up and give us a gameComment

Re: EA Drops NCAA Basketball 11
You will see a 2 year cycle for college hoops games. This may be a good thing. With 2 years to put out a game there will be more then just new rosters changed every year. I like most fans of 2k8 would hope that 2k can get back in. Maybe they make a game one year and EA the next. Everyone wins.Relax, it's just a video game!Comment

Re: EA Drops NCAA Basketball 11
I doubt that. It just gives them the right to use the logos, etc. If they choose to do nothing with it, that would be there prerogative. At least that is the way movie rights work. See the first Fantastic Four movie. I don't believe this would work all that differently.Comment

Re: EA Drops NCAA Basketball 11
I really do not remember EA ever signing NCAA hoops to an EXCLUSIVE deal...???...They hav ethe NCAA Football for 1 more year, but the only reason that EA was the only one making an NCAA Hoop sgame was because 2k REFUSED to fork over the ARLY licensing fee for NCAA BB....I belive that they can make a game again anytime they want if they pony up the fee the NCAA wants....
Am I wrong about this?Comment

Re: EA Drops NCAA Basketball 11
According to Pasta Padre, EA doesn't have an exclusivity deal for NCAA basketball (contrary to popular belief). It's just that they were the only ones willing to shell out the cash when the NCAA jacked up their licensing cost in 2008.
It's mentioned in the third paragraph of this article:

Re: EA Drops NCAA Basketball 11
It looks like EA dropped the NCAA Basketball series due to likely litigation and do not be surprised if NCAA Football is next.Comment

Re: EA Drops NCAA Basketball 11
No way does EA drop the college football series that easily. There would be major litigation battles before that happened.Comment

Did EA actually get the sole rights to a basketball franchise? 2K decided to not renew their license after 2K8, it wasnt that they couldnt continue making it because the license had been purchased. (of course EA may have bought the license after 2K decided not to renew their but did they)
I for one would never consider buying a EA college basketball game, unless I had already played it and was satisfied with it, has anybody else noticed how Sh***y the graphics on the back cover look (for essentially every version) its like they arent thinking when they choose the stills for that. I know the graphics arent that bad but I didnt find this out until I saw someone playing it/ played the demo. NCAA football is similar in terms of back cover decisions but I actually follow the updates on that title leading up to its release so I know they arent that bad.
The suits shouldnt go very far, as it prevents profiting from a player's likeness, which would mean schools shouldnt be able to put pictures of their players on anything that they sell suchas programs, as they would actually be profitting off of the players themselves. Also the majority of those bringing suit are in it strictly for the money, their image is damaged nor are they. Most players are honored to be in a video game, let's face it's be pretty awesome, and for some its the only opportunity they will ever get, it those who simply want the money that are unhappy with the portrayal of themselves.
