To add to the conversation, I like the idea of having realistic hockey with realistic defense, but we would probably have to play 20 min periods just like the real NHL to see accurate goal totals.

Yep, that would most likely be the hangup about TRULY realistic gameplay. I don't think you could expect truly realistic play/results/stats, and play with 5-10 minute periods. If we're talking about near absolutes, it would have to be one or the other imo.
For myself...I'm not too sure I'd choose to play 20 minute periods, along with an 82 game season...plus playoffs. Now if we were given the choice of say a 41 game season, then ya...I'd be very interested.
In my little dream world, you'd have a "Simulation slider". That would regulate the aggression towards the puck of the AI controlled players, User/Cpu. And the option of season length to correspond with the sim slider. Just a thought.

I dunno but for me it seems like the honey moon is ending for these updates.. seeing low CPU shots again, predictable AI, robo goalies.. etc.. I'm not even a big stats nazi but it just irks me to see shots being like 30-9 in my favor with the CPU having 2 goals even when I win..
I think I am gonna have to start from scratch on a slider set or something and see how that goes..Pittsburgh - 2009 City of Champions! YES WE DID!Comment

I'm playing the playoff mode with the teams as they would be ranked in the playoffs if they started today.. except I took out Calgary and put my Blues in the 8th spot.
Beat SJ the first two games 1-0 as Mason is playing like he's never played in any regular game for me in goal..
The tuner is great though.. space is non-exhistant like it should be against the Sharks.. and the puck takes all sorts of odd bounces. I struggle to get any decent shot that isn't deflected by a stick, body part, etc...
Add the excellent commentary, having my own music play, and the playoff atmostphere and I'd have to say that NHL 10 is my favorite console sports game of all time.Comment

What I did, is to decrease my "Player Acceleration".
In my opinion the easiest way to give back an advantage to the AI-players.
If you do this (only by perhaps 1 step), I would be very surprised, if you still would have the same Stats (30-9).
For me the Player Acceleration is one of the most important Sliders!

Re: NHL 10 Roster Update 7 and Tuner Set 1.03 Available, Post Impressions Here
I just went to Superstar over the weekend, so I'm still fine tuning them after moving up, but they're mostly the same as the ones I posted in the "Hardcore Passing" thread. I think the key ones are puck control @ zero (a must for this style!), acceleration @ zero (w/ gamespeed @ 1), pass INTs maxed, and the big one, using manual passing.
You just can't dominate the puck on manual passing like you can with pass assist, so it evens out possession somewhat and leads to some turnovers if you try to force the breakout. But it's weird because at the same time, I feel I can do more with manual passing, even with the errors it produces. I'm now at the point where I really dislike playing with pass assist, like online versus, because I actually feel limited in what passes I can make.Comment

Re: NHL 10 Roster Update 7 and Tuner Set 1.03 Available, Post Impressions Here
Theres no going back for me either Qb.
Although I really can't afford the scoring chances I miss because of the manual passing. Such as a player of mine out in front looking at a half open net...but the pass is off a bit, and he has to reach for it. And by then, the goalie has recovered. But man...when you do nail it, nothing feels better.
And yeah, it is kinda weird that when I play vs my son on normal, the number of passes I miss fire on.1969 NFL ChampionsComment

Are you using auto aiming when you play? Because I use auto-aim, mostly becauseI really don't think you can say "most" goals in the league are deflections/rebounds, let alone 90 percent. There are still a huge number of clean slapshots and clean wristers/snapshots that occur these days.
I actually think the goals in real life are balanced .
just from tonights game flyers at the devils.
first goal devils scored was a wrister that went thru 5 hole
their 2nd goal was a deflection off a flyer
all 3 flyers goals were wrist shots top shelf that beat brodeur clean.
I am just not very good. But I score about half of my goals on clean shots. I think a lot of people have trouble nailing clean shots because they don't aim very well.
When I play online, I have to score almost exclusively on rebounds and deflections.Comment

as soon as tuner 1.03 came out, I put all the sliders I had adjusted back to default. I now play on all-star, everything default. The only adjustments i made was game speed to 0, and i lowered pass speeds 1 level.I dunno but for me it seems like the honey moon is ending for these updates.. seeing low CPU shots again, predictable AI, robo goalies.. etc.. Re: NHL 10 Roster Update 7 and Tuner Set 1.03 Available, Post Impressions Here
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the tuner sets. And they have made some nice differences. And the support for the game has been pretty impressive.
However, imo...nothing beats a good ole patch to fix a few things. And I'm kinda getting the impression that we may very well not see a second patch for NHL '10'. You'd think if a patch #2 was in the works...we'd have heard something of it by now.
I remember Jason saying that for instance, the cpu's habit of passing the puck back to the point, forgoing an open shot, would take a patch to correct. Personally it'd be nice to see the cpu be far more aggressive towards the User puck carrier when headed up ice. Rather than just allowing you to just skate right on by. It'd be nice to see this at least on the higher levels. Point being...it'd be great to have some of the remaining issues addressed with a second patch.
Maybe I missed it. Has there been any rumors of a patch #2?1969 NFL ChampionsComment
