Madden 11 Needs Interaction Between RB's and There Blockers

The reason quarterback sneaks are so effective is because there's no kind of interaction between the runner and the blockers. It needs to be like 2k5 where you would have to bounce off your blockers instead of running through them.

Definitely. Incidental contact is a HUGE item that's missing from Madden. Anything from an HB/FB running into the QB as he's going back to pass, or for an HB running behind a blocker. Right now an HB can hit the back of a blocker and he'll basically just run in place. Looks horrible. In APF2K8 the HB would put his hands out and shift to the right or left depending on which side he's running towards. This needs to be extended to contact by tacklers who run into the HB / Tackle packs as well.

On the QB contact, HB running contact, the animations would actually effect gameplay. In all other scenarios it's pretty much only going to add to the immersion / experience by avoiding unrealistic scenarios such as the HB running in place.

Hard to believe we're still talking about players running in place because momentum is stopped here in the new age of the gaming system.

Physics and momentum has definitely taken a back seat to the new Madden games since the new consoles arrived. You think with the technology this would've been the new and exciting thing to explore.

Here's to hoping physics with the ball and without the ball are brought to the forefront of Madden 11.

Just the other day I had a beautiful HB screen pass set up with three blockers out in front with one defender. What was behind me no longer mattered and should've walked to the endzone but two of my lead blockers did a total 180 and my third lead blocker whiffed. I could'nt make the move. It's frustrating. So yeah, AI with physics.

Wouldn't mess with much of the art. It's awesome. Let's focus on other areas.

this is the truth for sure, it would be amazing to see them finally put in interaction. And on goalline runs, the fact everybody is standing up instead of submarining offensive lineman or cut blocking....disgusting.

Love this idea. It would make running from the goal line more interesting. Also, I would like to see a young quarterback with low awareness step on the runningback's foot from time to time. Just to show you a reason why you should start a quarterback that is older and knows what he is doing.

Yea there is still alot of improvements that need to be made to madden 11 this coming year. This idea is good. Best to share with Ian and Phil when they start interacting with us again in late march. They are try their best this coming year and all espically with BB coming out in late may. But madden has many things that BB will not. So it is safe to madden 11 will still be on top when this year is out.

This should be at the top of their list of priorities for madden 11. tackling is a huge part of football obviously but there is so much more interaction and contact going on that EA really needs to address..

I am sure this should be at the top of their list this coming year. But we want know what they are working on until they give us more info in late march. That is when they started interacting with us last year at that time to get info from us and all to make the game better.

i really don't have much hope for any type of interaction based improvement from Madden. i'm pretty much convinced their technology is just not capable of successfully making any type of interaction feel or look authentic. there's either going to be horrible suction glitches, morphing & etc if it even is added taking away from it.

Re: Madden 11 Needs Interaction Between RB's and There Blockers

                      Well....

If they still developed Madden for the PC, they could tap into huge resources for physics processing. Multicore CPU's, GPU's, etc... All have more than enough power to dynamically simulate real physics. Can this be done on console systems? I'm not sure. Maybe next gen?

Then the question is, would EA put the time and money into developing this? It would mean the most substantial enhancement to gameplay that madden has ever had. However, it is something they could market out the wazoo. So maybe there is a chance we'll see this eventually.

Besides player on player contact, real physics might be able to more accurately simulate the way a ball is thrown. So those lame-duck throw away passes might not carem straight to the waiting arms of a d-lineman. A qb trying to dump a pass will throw it at the feet of an eligible receiver, if he is still in the pocket.

Also, physics could enhance the changes in the ball as the weather changes. A water-logged ball in rainy conditions. A hard and slick ball during cold weather games.

Also, don't forget about the physics of the field itself. Don't think that field conditions don't play a part in the real game of football. How about that Pittsburg game a couple years back where the punted ball hit the ground and didn't bounce. It buried itself in the mud. The middle of the field getting torn up. etc.

What Madden is really missing, for me, is proper physics, AI, momentum and line play (as mentioned by several others). I'd love to see goal line stands with linemen submarining. I'd like to see better animations for player movement. Linemen making logical decisions for who to block (we've all seen some ugly ones where you think you have a big play, only for linemen to ignore the guys right in front of them).

If they can show a plausible representation of something like this (0:34-0:55), I'll be ecstatic.

                        or this

For something like that to happen in Madden, we have to do away with suction blocking, we need proper collision physics (where size, leverage, speed and positioning is taken into account - as well as player abilities), intelligent AI decisions and greater animation variety and fluidity.

Whenever you watch a football game, the announcers always refer to the battle of the trenches, being such a crucial element to the game. The battle and struggle between the offensive front and the front 7 of the defense is what's most appealing to me. It's an extremely important part of the game and representing it properly would IMO bring a lot more authenticity to the game than player TD dances and the like (not that those touches aren't nice to have).

I've told Ian on a few occasions that the running game NEEDS this interaction. I like it better in 2K5 than in APF, but Madden doesn't seem to have it at all.

The interaction between the blockers is what makes the run game authentic, and it places emphasis on identifying holes. I don't think my requests have fallen on deaf ears...they've just yet to implement it. Hopefully it comes in M11. They had it in M08, though it was VERY inconsistent.

Oh another thing is 3-4 lineman never take up 2 gaps. They also need to implement this, if it hasn't already been mentioned. It kind of ruins the purpose and scheme of the 3-4, and it would me the defense more difficult to play against, lets be honest. this too basically means re-doing how they do blocking though, so it sounds like a lot of work. hopefully they put it in

I dont understand if Ian was such a NFL2K guy, (and could Madden 10 seem anymore like it w/the cutscene implemenatation), how EA could not only omit the the superior running engine of NFL2K or even APF, but even miss getting the ball rotation correct..

Watch the spirals in those games and then watch the 1 rotation shotputs Madden 10 has..I pray they at least improve the ball rotation.
