Veteran Hitting: Simply timing?I am having a tough time understanding the hitting. I feel like on veteran I can't dictate whether I pull or go away with a pitch? I'll try going opposite field and I'll pull a dinger down the line.

 Re: Veteran Hitting: Simply timing?

If you don't move the left stick, Vet becomes timing based as well. Confirmed several weeks ago by Brian_SCEA.

Allstar is where you have to start moving the PCI around to ensure solid contact, and it gets tougher the higher you go in difficulty.

So if I have it pre-positioned before the pitch I'm not really moving it, so I have no control?Comment

That's tough to say - I'm not sure one way or another. Brian's post didn't exactly spell that out, but here it is if you want to read it:

 Re: Veteran Hitting: Simply timing?

so if we leave the left-stick PCI in the middle, then we aim hit direction with the right stick?

I gotta know, b/c this is killing me.Comment

 Re: Veteran Hitting: Simply timing?

Last year I played All-Star and HOF and never used the Left-Stick for hitting and had good results though. Is it more important to use this year? I hope not because I have a lot of trouble hitting x and moving the LS where I think the ball is going in a second.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

 Re: Veteran Hitting: Simply timing?

I still don't understand how people don't use the L-stick with the higher difficulties in this game. I suppose you can get away with it in the lower difficulties, though. Some people swear by not using it but the hitting system doesn't work that way. It isn't all about timing. The PCI doesn't work like that. You can have perfect timing and if your PCI isnt in the right place, you'll either miss or make bad contact.

I suppose if you leave it in the middle all the time (which is boring) and only swing at meatballs, you don't need to use the L-Stick but real life players don't approach at-bats like that.Comment

 Re: Veteran Hitting: Simply timing?

as a first time buyer, I honestly dont understand the hitting system in this game. I dont see why I cant just use L-stick to aim determine where my hits are going to go.I still don't understand how people don't use the L-stick with the higher difficulties in this game. Instead I have to pre-determine where i want the ball to go before the pitch comes by pressing R-stick, whereas older baseball games(MVP, etc.) allowed you to make adjustments mid-pitch. Therefore if the balls not coming like you thought it would, you could hit it in another direction.

I cant exactly move R-stick and press 'x' at the same time on this game.

Is my thinking wrong? Am I doing something wrong?Comment

I've learned to have PCI ON and set it in a certain area (if you're looking up and in, then set it up and in) and don't move it. NOTE: Watch "Da Czar's hitting tutorial. Try not to swing at anything outside of the PCI. Don't move it as the pitch is coming in (as most people do). Leaving it in the middle all the time (like the non-L stick people do) takes the fun and realism out of the game. I enjoy guessing a outside pitch on a 1-1 count and getting it and taking it the other way.Comment
