I have never had this much trouble hitting

I've been playing the 2k series since 2k7 and I have never had this much trouble just getting basic hits. I have done the hitting drills over and over and I can hit decent in the drills, but for whatever reason I stink in the games.

I have been using the batters eye along with the strike zone, but I'm not so sure this is a great idea. Although if I turn these off the ball comes so fast that it's hard to adjust (using the left stick to aim).

If anyone has some pointers I would really appreciate it greatly.

Also, what is the left stick used for? Is it to aim your hit to a specific area in the outfield or is it the aim of the bat in the strike zone? Another question is do you guys just use contact swings or power swings when you're batting?

    Thanks in advance fellas.

do you use classic or total control? I use classi and am having trouble hitting too, my timing is way off, but I find it challenging. They changed up the feel to hitting this year, when the AI throws change ups they are a lot more effective now. I cant really put my finger on what I did, but the overral feel to the hitting is different.

Changing the camera made a huge difference for me. I'm hitting almost .400 in My Player.

Re: I have never had this much trouble hitting

I've calmed down, relaxed some and took off batters eye. I can hit better now but I'm still confused on what the left stick is used for. I realize its for aiming, but what aiming exactly? Is it where you want the ball to go in the outfield, or is it aiming the bat wherever the ball is pitched in the strike zone?

        Anyone know this?

lower pitch speed. i couldnt hit either and then i lowered pitch speed to 45 and started to get 10-15 hits a game cuz i could time it much better. im probly gonna raise this a little tho cuz 10-15 hits every game isnt all that realistic this also lets u draw more walks cuz u can read the balls and strikes better.

The left stick is for aiming toward what part of the field you want the ball to go to. for example, if you want to hit a fly ball to right field hold the left stick up and to the right. if you want to hit a ground ball to the third baseman, hold the left stick down and to the left.

            hope that helps

Appreciate it bro, and I appreciate the other answers as well.

              Thanks!

Re: I have never had this much trouble hitting

It seems like my left stick is backwards for some reason. When I want to hit it to rightfield (as a right handed hitter) I have to aim to the left with the left stick and to the right for a pull. So if I want to go over the left field wall, I have to aim the leftstick down and to the right....WTF. Has anybody else noticed this? Try it in homerun derby for example. I swear this is how it works for me. Is there a setting I need to change?

                I'm on classic hitting BTW.

What is killing me is me swinging early. I cannot just wait on the pitch. I keep on thinking the swing animation takes so much longer, but it's complete way TOO quickly. Even when I tell myself, wait until the last possible moment I end up swinging too early.

Also, a lot of it has to do with your timing as well as the pitch location. The left stick is just one factor to influence direction, but it's not automatically going to go where you point the left stick.

good point jeffy. if you are holding down and right on the stick, but are swinging at a pitch low and away, you most likely arent going to hit the ball to the first baseman. (assuming you are a using a lefty batter)

this is what I'm getting frustrated at as well. The batting animations/timing arent consistent at all. If you're the least bit early, the animation will be super quick. If you're the least bit late, the animation is slower. Ive yet to really find the sweet spot and Ive played a bunch of games.

Yea exactly. I play with the Nats as they are my home team and we really stink. In about 6 games I've had 3 HR's. 2 with Zimmerman and 1 with Dunn.

It's INCREDIBLY satisfying to just get a BASE HIT in this game cause hitting is so challenging. Don't even get me started about getting a HR. I was yelling at my desk. lol

I hope the patch comes soon though.

I can't count how many times I've yelled "What am I doing!?" at the TV after swinging early on a pitch heading over the plate. I get way too anxious when I see a good pitch to hit.

I don't use the left stick at all, and I average around 8-10 hits a game, and about 5 runs a game. I just use timing and I get everything from line drives down the line, doubles into the gap (two last night by Punto is my Twins franchise), bloops singles, jeter like hits the other way, and homeruns of all kinds. This all on default PRO sliders btw.
