Odd ERA question
I just finished a game where I beat the Twins 7-5 as the Rays. I was wondering what an "INF" ERA is. Jose Mijares came into the game in the 6th and proceeded to blow the save by giving up 2 runs on 2 hits and was immediately pulled, making it impossible to calculate his ERA for that game (can't divide by 0 IP). Is the "INF" an infinite ERA? If so, how would that reflect on his ERA in the future if this happened in real life? I know it doesn't really relate to the Show (which remains the best sports game available), but it was just something I was curious about since I'm not a huge baseball stat fanatic.Tags: None -
Re: Odd ERA question
You are correct and in terms of his future ERA, if he came in and pitched a perfect inning then the stats would just be added together showing that he pitched 1 inning and gave up 2 runs and his ERA would drop from infinite to 18.00. Hope that helps.Comment

Re: Odd ERA question
Since always, since it has no value it is not a real number. You cannot add or substract from inifinity and get a whole or counting number in return, so therefore infinity is imaginary, only used to fill in the gaps in calc. trying to determine LIM of stationary equations, which is what happens when you try to divide by zero.I will see you at THE SHOW!!Comment

Re: Odd ERA question
lol...a mathematical discussion has broken out in a baseball forum...lolI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
