I didn't know Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson still played...
for EVERY team on all-star. I mean no matter who you are playing the infielders are insane at making plays and perfect throws from bad positions. Does the pitcher confidense play a role in the way they field or something?Tags: None -

doesn't happen to me -
Re: I didn't know Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson still played...
pitcher confidence doesn't have an effect on the fielding ability.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

My main want for next year is more impactful defense. Every team basically has the same defense in the gameComment

I see very distinct differences, are they drastic? usually not, but they are there... it is a play here, a play there - but the ratings matter.Comment

not to get into a madden-like topic but put together a team of guys will no wheels and no defensive abilities out there and see what happens...

That was a, confusing, post.... Yes the minors have crappy defense, but every team in the minors has crappy defense. In the majors there's little separation between the good and bad teams.
Look at the Yankees from 2008 to 2009. Or the Rays from 1998-2007 to 2008. Defense matters a lot. The Rays, Yankees, Red Soxs, Angels, Twins etc...they all play good defense. They are all consistently good teams. In game there's hardly a noticeable difference between the defense of the Royals and Pirates vs the Rays and Red Soxs. Look at the Sox offseason. they signed Beltre and Cameron not for their bats but for their defense. The 2008 Rays should that teams could win against the likes of the Yanks and Sox by playing defense, pitching and running the bases well.Comment

so are you suggesting that if you moved your crappy AA, or AAA guys up to the bigs that they would "magically" become better defensively?Comment

Re: I didn't know Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson still played...
yea does seem that way. esp when i have scott rolen who is very highly rated in the field, dart towards a ball and have it roll between his outstretch glove and foot, as if he were a low rated fielder. makes no sense. would be nice to have to add a defensive strategy to your game.
last year i used an OF at ss, (he plays infield and OF in real life) but he was not rated at IF for this game. played just as good as anyother ss. made diving stabs accurate throws, nice animations.Comment

Though you're certainly right about the Royals defense, it's absolutely terrible.Comment

Re: I didn't know Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson still played...
Guys like Pat Burrell or Adam Dunn who have no business playing defense play it just as well in game as guys like Crawford or Gutierrez. Granted they don't have the speed of those guys but as far as catching, getting jumps etc.. there's little difference.
I wasn't looking at specific numbers(as far as the Pirates) so I apologize. I was just assuming they weren't very good because of recent history.Comment

It's baseball. You can make this argument about hitting too when you score ten runs with the Royals.
This game when it comes to defense is great, in my opinion. Some guys have great range and pull off great plays and some just don't. And if you think so go try and play the games from the last years. It's such an improvement.Comment

Re: I didn't know Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson still played...
I do agree with you on this issue, there is very little distinction between elite defenders and the Adam Dunn's of the league.
I find it quite disappointing as I enjoy building a team around Defense, Speed and Pitching, but when my defense can't be distinguished from that of another teams, it feels like a waste. Why waste money and draft picks on good defenders when the overweight and unfit slugger can do the job just as well.Comment

Things like that are supposed to happen but defense is a year long thing. It comes up in every game. Not just every so often. The best example I can give is the fact that you could put Jeter in CF, Johnny Damon at C, Adam Dunn at 3B and you wouldn't see a dramatic difference.Comment
