    New guy

My wife's famous words any time I get a new game, "Why do I never see you playing, all I ever see you doing is messing around with rosters and things." So I figured if that really is the case, I should be a good fit for this game.

Don't get me wrong I can get it done on the stix as well, been rocking NCAA since the beginning, but I have really missed being able to create my own plays/playbook and run my own offense. We had it for a few years on Old Gen in Madden then they took it away and I've felt naked without it. Plus for $7.99 I couldn't go wrong if it gets me to July along with The Show.

Going to play through this without reading any of the draft guides and see what I can accomplish on my own. Look forward to getting to know some of the old timers around here. The game seems complex enough that I will probably be looking for help sooner then later.

Oh man this game has sucked up my life for the past 3 days. I haven't touched The Show since.

You are gonna LOVE the draft stories and college updates you get.

    Good luck!

              Re: New guy

My favorite madden was 2002 because you could play what I called at the time "simfootball" (named after simcity, simearth, etc). Create your own team, your own players, draft your own roster, and watch your team succeed or fail based on those decisions by having the computer sim the game in real time, so you could watch the players actually play. I was very unhappy when they took those options out of later games on the newer systems.

I was in an EBgames lamenting the lack of those options in newer maddens, and the clerk said "uh, that's because they took all that stuff and put it in it's own game." When I found out it was $10 used, I bought it without learning another thing about it, and I've spent easily as much time on HC09 as every single other PS3 game I own put together.

There are a small number of us still playing this game, but we're rabid fans. Unfortunately we don't think there are enough of us to get a HC 11 or HC 12, but hope springs eternal.

Thanks for the welcomes. I am completely new, didn't play on the PS2, picked it up for the PS3 though. I was kind of hoping they made a PC version but I couldn't find one locally.

I did have a good first draft I think. Started my career as the Dolphins HC, supposed to be a challenge. 60 mil in cap room made that a moot point. Decided to redo the draft since it was recent enough that I still had very in-depth knowledge of all the players. Haven't made it through training camp yet to see how I did but I got lucky in some of the guys I drafted.

                1st - Jake Long
1st - Some Corner, forget who
                2nd - Ray Rice
                2nd - Brian Brohm
4th - Craig Steltz (Loved this guy at LSU, saw I needed a SS he was on the board, picked him and found he has >85 potential, what a gift)

I did lots of trading to try to front load my team but I still have a 1st, 2nd, and 2 4ths in 2009. I also managed to shore up my OLine in free agency and signed Dante Stallworth to give me a down the field threat. I dumped a few big salaries in Joey Porter and Jason Taylor, but I got solid players/picks with the moves I've made up to this point and having a blast. Now I need to find my old notebook which has >200 plays in it I created for Madden back in the day and figure out which ones fit my team makeup.

Welcome! I've been playing this since its inception back in August '08. I avoid all of the draft guides too, but there are some good posts here. You'll basically learn the game just by reading a lot of the posts in this forum.

After you familiarize yourself with the game, be sure to ask questions if you got em.

The only advice I can give is master plays and plays and play. It don't matter the rating your #1's have...unless they master the plays, it will be a long year. I had a nice Viks franchise going, but somehow it crashed and I haven't had the heart to start another one. This is the only game, that you really get to know your players ability. You can really tell if a guy is gonna make it. My 2nd round QB won rookie of the year...but the next year with no standout WR's he looked like a rookie.

Good luck, and keep us informed.

I know someone who had this game on the 360. It kept locking up, he finally took it back. I downloaded the demo recently to try on the PS3, and it locked up with about 2 mins left in my game. I was thinking of making a purchase but don't want to be having alot of problems with it. My question is did they put out a fix or was the retail version on the PS3 pretty stable? Thx

There are some tell-tale signs that the game is about to freeze.

                        - all audio cuts out completely
                        - things start taking longer than usual to load (you'll notice)
                        - after Schefter/GM/whoever talks in the bottom left of the screen, they get done talking but their face is stuck there still talking without sound

If any of those happen, just save and reset the game.
