Pitching help
I need someone to teach me how to strike people out with curveballs. I've tried everything with the meter and still can't strikeout anyone with Wainwright or Carpenter's curveball. This is very unrealistic since a good portion of both of their strikeouts are via the hook. I have no problem striking anyone out with the rest of the pitches but they always either get a piece of my hook or have a great eye and don't swing at anything outside the zone.Tags: None -
Re: Pitching help
Just keep throwing it either high and away or inside to jam the batter up. It is difficult to get the CPU to bite on this pitch but eventually you get someone. Just work it, Wandy also has a killer hook in this game but I hardly ever have anyone to fall for it. That or if I throw it down the middle it's usally..back...back...back...back.....GONE.HoustonAstros l Texans l Rockets -
Re: Pitching help
I've tried adjusting the sliders and it still doesn't seem right. I'm still not having any luck and it kind of ruins the game for me not being able to dominate at times with my best two pitcher's strikeout pitch. This is something I hope they look at for next year because it was the same last year but I always thought it was just me.
Even pitchers are able to hold up on a borderline curve and at least foul off anything in the strike zone. You can every once in a while get a swing and a miss but it's a lot rarer than it should be.Comment

Re: Pitching help
I agree the CPU makes throwing the curveball tricky. I think there's a bit too much emphasis on constantly having to mix things up rather than taking your ace, rearing back and throwing nasty stuff a batter can't touch.
My advice would be to try and raise the CPU's swing aim. For example throw a high & tight fastball for strike one. Then throw 3 more high with the goal of one of them being a strike. Now you've got a 2-2 count and the CPU will hopefully be aiming high so you can drop the hammer. Yes, that's throwing 4 pitches just to set up one, and when it works it makes me tingle all over. You can see where the CPU aims by clicking the Left analog button so check it out and get a feel for it.
I also find hitting the release perfectly yields curveball strike-outs, as does max power with good release after throwing a few lower powered. Finally don't throw too many with two strikes, if the CPU picks up that trend it will start aiming low.Comment

Re: Pitching help
Throwing curveballs gives me the heebie jeebies. I don't think I'm alone in this. They're too difficult to locate, and way too many get jacked.
I'm a realism guy - to a point. If one of my "aces" relied on a curveball in real life, in the game I'd consider editing it out in favor of a different pitch...and they try and forget I did it.Comment

Re: Pitching help
I was messing around one time and threw nothing but curves in the game. I won't even post the result because it was embarrasing, I really got worked over. To compare in the next game I threw nothing but fastballs and gave up 3 runs on 12 hits - good old reliable fastball!
That's not to say the curve blows, it's just that you have to use it sparingly and wisely. I do think too many end up in the dirt or jacked, I always have to brace myself when I throw one.Comment
