Re: NCAA Football 11 Hands-On Preview (IGN)

This quote sums up their experience quite well I think...

"Obviously, after a short preview, I can't say whether EA Sports has succeeded in its effort to deliver a truly authentic college football game, but by the outward appearance of the game I saw in New York and the direction they say they're going, I'd say the developers at Tiburon are well on their way.

He states that he cant really say wether EA has succeded, and then turns around and say that IF things are going in the direction EA says they are going....

In other words, he saw the same thing we saw in that terrible video that they posted, but was assured that everything would be functioning like the want it to be.....at a later date.

Thats what I got from it. Same story every year.

To be fair, we can't know what the author saw. He got to spend time actually playing the game, not just watching a single (really crummy) video. Maybe the game plays better now that it did when the vid was made?

If you don't know whether or not you want to buy the game, the best thing to do is play the demo and see, or better yet rent the game and play the full version. You can't always base whether or not it's going to be good by reading a preview or watching a video.

Nothing against Nessler but they should've got Brent Musburger to go along with Herbstreit. They do a great job together on ABC. Musburger is really passionate about college football & he would really add emotion to the game.

There were some good things said in that article, but I'll wait for a preview from someone other than IGN.

Specifically, I hope either Joystiq or Owen Good from Kotaku (the best sports gaming writer today) put something out there.

two way street, they might have approached musberger and he didn't want to do it.

Musberger doesnt translate well to videogames....alot of the older guys dont I've noticed. Nessler has a better videogame fit, and his style translates better IMO

I like what I hear. But I never like to get too excited by a game. Whenever I do, I get dissapointed. So I just wait for the demo. Then look at OS impressions. OS impressions usually are a very good basis. But don't listen to all the people who cry about the littlest thing, and just want to hate on EA. I like to listen to people like mods, or somebody with a lot of posts because usually they know what they're talking about.
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

I agree. Nessler actually is pretty good on the NCAA series. He actually has emotion when he talks unlike a lot of other video game announcers. You'll actually know when the big play is happening becasue he is yelling with some personality showing. Same with Kevin Harlan in the NBA 2k series. Meawhile there's also people who are like Clark Kellogg and Tom Hammond who should go no where near video games.

They should use Tom Hammond's audio from Madden for Notre Dame home games. Just to keep things authentic.

Check out the preview of the entire game last year: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/982/982497p1.html
It's not fully negative, but the writer does say there is not any new revolutionary gameplay changes and feels similar to last year's (09) game. Same writer too, so there is some consistency of opinion.

"Two other, perhaps slightly less important, additions to the NCAA Football formula are auto-turbo and a new onside kick camera angle. I didn't actually get to try these out, but my understanding is that this year, players will get to hop into the options menu and elect to turn off the functionality of the right trigger, thus allowing the CPU to decide when it's time to boost down the field (not unlike EA Sports' NHL game last year). "

um, NHL isn't auto turbo. You press a button to push the puck up the ice a few yards and gain some speed as you chase it

Ahh, this is GREAT to hear. IGN has been historically negative about the EA football and basketball games, sometimes warranted and sometimes, I didn't think so but this guy got me more than enthused with his hands on. Coming from an IGN writer, this means a lot to me although I don't let what they say dictate how I feel about a game. It just means that, for once, a EA Sports football game actually IMPRESSED an IGN writter!

He even mentioned how the animations look more natural with locomotion added in. I guess that leaked vid from the other day wasn't implementing locomotion because it looked like the same ole NCAA football.

Anway, demo in less than 2mos? Hopefully mid June like last year so we can have a month or so of enjoyment. Can't wait!
