Re: Madden NFL 11 Blog: Dual Stick Control
the info on the blog was good and all but watching it I think I just realized one of the major widespread problems in madden. Players take too long of strides. The player models shown and now that I look back those in madden 10 as well take about 2 steps per 5 yards. This is a 7.5 foot stride. Now, I am not exactly a tiny person standing around 6'2" and for me to make a stride that long I would need to pretty much take a running leap. Even when an athlete hits top speed and is striding out 5 feet is a pretty long stride length and that extra 2 feet per stride is causing problems from how the running looks to making just a couple steps make a several yard difference in the success or failure of a play which added in with the warping causes too small of a difference between a 2 yard loss and a 10+ yard gain which basically overpowers the big plays as a method of gameplan and makes ball control strategies worthless.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 11 Blog: Dual Stick Control
yes i understand where you are coming from, that happened ALOT last year. But Ian came in quick this year and said that is exactly why they werent doing weekly blogs this year. Because last year they showed off things that werent implemented yet and they got burned for it. He said this year they weren't talking about anything until it was already working in the game.
Great, thanks. I didn't know Ian had stated this; it also explains why he's been scarce here unlike last year.
Ok, if it's definitely in the game, then my optimism is slightly lifted.Comment

Went back to see if they fixed the tech vids and they were. The middle and right animations were added that they had mentioned but failed to show earlier. Nothing wowing but it just gives a better sense of what the heck they were talking about. LolJust cuz you pour syrup on ish....Comment

Great catch there manthe info on the blog was good and all but watching it I think I just realized one of the major widespread problems in madden. Players take too long of strides. I have been trying to get this addressed for a while so I hope someone sees your post or this comment from EA and looks into it. I don't know what it should be, but I can tell just by seeing it that it is not right.
Would be nice if player height factored into the length of stride as well!!!!Comment

this explains everything we thought was wrong with madden. Im satisfied for this season of Madden. Does everyone realize they are listening?Comment

yes the QB stiffness where it looks like he is stuck in the ocean looks gone which Cry me to sleep, makes me happy very very happyMy thoughts:
* First spin move in the video actually looks like...a spin move.....nice to see!
* The override video example adds some depth to the QB. Takes the stiffness out of the QB IMO.
*The progressive leaning in the lean_fwd video is intriguing. I am hoping that an upright truck has a lessened effect than lowering your shoulder completely.
* The leaning too far video is very nice as well. I like that there is a penalty to leaning too much/too often.
Should be interesting to see this in action in the videos!Comment

good point im also happy its here . however it got here.. I would like to see some competition thoughWasn't this exact concept first in NFL2K5? I seem to remember a video with T.O. running on the field (just like those videos) and the game stringing together multiple right-stick moves, jukes, spins, etc.
I have thought for YEARS that EA would be well-served to just simply steal all of the old features from 2K and throw them into their games, and it sure sounds like this is going to happen this year (ESPN in NCAA, this right stick moves in Madden and NCAA, etc.)
Better half a decade late than never I guess, but PLEASE, don't call this "new"...the only thing "new" about it is the fact that its going to make Madden and NCAA play very differently for a few weeks to a month after release.Comment

Re: New dual stick blog on EA website
True, I am beginning to see a next gen football game here. The lean and twist look really good. I am hoping that some rbs will navigate holes better. There were rumors that some 2k staff joined the Madden team either way the dual stick is adding on what 2k has done.Comment

Great job EA, adding in features from NFL2K5 and feeling the pressure to add it now with BackBreaker making it their exclusive control system. Yes, that's sarcasm, but at the same time we see here how competition is forcing innovation, or in EA's case, forcing them to actually implement new features.Comment
