It's still almost unbelievable this guy was sitting there and that JJ was willing to pull the trigger and move up. I understand it wasn't a position of need, but when you're playing to win a SB now you might as well help in anyway you can. I'm sure the team will address the depth issues in the next rounds, but Bryant was simply someone the team couldn't pass on.

Bryant will be alright, off the field at least, IMO. Yes, he has "character issues" (lying to the NCAA? not as bad as stealing, fighting, drugs, 20+ baby's mama's, etc) but he will be on a roster with some veteran leadership in Witten, Romo, Brooking, etc. This will only make the Cowboys better, especially at WR position across the board. Austin is a gym rat & is constantly trying to get better, Crayton seems to elevate his game every time the team tries to bury him on the depth chart, and now Roy Williams is on notice: produce or you're now quite dispensable.

I hope Dez Bryant takes the starting spot away from Roy Williams. Williams certainly has been sent a message if he didn't already know. He better start making himself look like the guy we got for traded draft picks or he's gonna be gone. I like it myself!

Anyone know anything more about the Penn State linebacker that we got? The analysts seemed to tell that he was a downhill sorta player who was good but had some injury concerns. Anyone with any more information than that?

Apparently he compares to Keith Brooking in the eyes of some...mainly those on the Cowboys. He was also projected as a potential 1st rounder very early in the process, but had a knee issue that dropped his stock. He seems like a good fit for the D.

That said, I'm not a huge fan of the pick for a couple reasons. One, I don't get trading up for him, but I'll assume the Cowboys had reason to believe he was on someone's radar ahead of them. More importantly, there were some OL options still available, and the depth there is a more pressing need IMO.

Time will tell, of course, but I hope I'm proven wrong and he turns out to be the "steal" Jerry and co. seem to think he was.

Also of note, according to dallascowboys.com both Crayton and Hurd are asking to be traded and are on the block along with Spears and Carpenter. Crayton was the only news in terms of the trade block to me, but I didn't know he and Hurd were actually asking to go.

I say let them. If you don't want to compete, your not needed. Say what you will about Roy Williams (who I have been very critical of) but I respect the fact that he is welcoming Dez and looking forward to having to prove himself.

I agree with ya! I'm not a big fan of this pick. We could've went in another direction. We have stronger needs at S & OL. That said, Brookings isn't exactly a spring chicken either. He's getting older but we already have Carpenter too.

I mean we used Carpenter as our 1st round pick a few years ago but he hasn't lived up to 1st round status. He has gotten better but not good enough to validate a 1st round pick.

I'm just curious now as to what we're gonna do today with rounds 4-7. These could turn out to be important picks for us.

Sean Lee is a tackling machine and a coaches dream. Hiis teammates called him superman, he was always around the ball making plays.

He's not what I'd call a bad pick. I just think we cold have went in another direction. By making this pick we have pretty much said that Bobby Carpenter is out the door when his contract runs out. Bobby was a 1st round pick & I do admit he's not been impressive either.

Maybe we are saying that with Brookings age & the disappointment of Carpenter then we are looking at Lee for the future. Bradie James isn't exactly young either now. It's not a bad pick for sure but I'd thought we would get either a S or OL with this pick.

We didn't get much in the draft today for sure. 2 CB's & an OL in the late rounds. I don't know much about these guys but don't seem like much to me! It looks like Bryant & Lee is our only 2 solid picks in this years draft.

A lot of people really like Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (in particular, my friend here who's an Eagles fan was hoping the Eagles would get him in the third round), and some had the William & Mary DT graded as high as a third-rounder.

I'm not sure how to grade the draft as a whole personally because I'm unfamiliar with many of these players. The obvious headline is Dez Bryant and, at least short-term, the success of this draft will depend on his production, IMO.

Yeah! I don't know enough about most of these guys either. I just know going by names that Bryant & Lee were really the only two players that I knew of that were drafted. I hope they all turn out to be contributors for my Boys in the future.

That makes perfect sense to me since we took Lee at LB in the 2nd round. It also makes sense in getting a solid OL in return too in a trade.

About f'n time. I saw a guy in a Barbie Carpenter jersey a couple days ago and I figured he had to be doing a bit. Nobody wears that jersey.
