    Franchise Tips???

hey so my roommate and I tried to rebuild the pirates so we simmed seasons and took on a gm type role, but its the year 2022 and we still havent made the playoffs. although we have had a couple .500 seasons.

I guess what im asking is does anyone have in helpful tips for managing my minor league teams and how to maximize on certain players potential? Pedro Alvarez's rating never past 74 even though who has +90 potential.

And also if anyone has any tips for going through the draft and finding guys that have the ability to really develop. Any help that would make franchise mode more fun would be appreciated.

I really haven't figured out how to maximize a players potential, but one thing is did you guys hire better minor league coaches?

Pretty sure it's under GM > Staff. I don't quite know how much effect it will have on the progression, but you would think having better minor league coaches would make players progress better.

Regarding the draft, it's a crapshoot IMO. I had done many test drafts before my real one to try and find out how to draft, but I never came away with anything higher than a 74 potential, but then when I drafted for real I was able to get a mid 80's and a low 80's potential players. My only suggestion is to not draft guys in the 70's ovr because those guys usually have low potential.

Yea we went and fired our whole coaching staff and hired the guy with the best teacher rating at every position

And yea the draft is hit or miss, but I did notice that if before you make your pick you go to draft summary and check out the players that went in the top 3-5 they have a potential rating in the high 90's. So what I resorted to doing was drafting whoever, and trading the for some of the top drafted guys that i missed on because I didnt know their potential ratings. But even then some guys with those potential ratings dont pan out.

But now everytime I go through a draft my xbox freezes at the end, so Im not sure if Ill be able to draft again.

They should have added some sort of way to scout the draftees before the draft like in nba 2k10. And if once every 10 years there was a filthy can't miss prospect like heyward or pujos, guys who are guarenteed to tear it up. That would definitely have added to the franchise mode.

Have you tried to clear your cache? Seems to fix a lot of peoples freezing problems...dunno if it will with your draft, but it's worth a shot.

Couldnt you just find a list of clones and always draft them?

(IE Josh Beckett has a clone generated rookie in the draft)

Kinda cheap... but you'll always get guys that pan out.

For the draft you could also just let the cpu draft for you, because they know the potential of the players, and they draft off of potential. Why they get to draft off potential, and we don't get to see it makes no sense.

I don't think that's true, I've seen plenty of the reincarnated mlb'ers that have low potentials. Being one of the clone's or regenerated mlb'ers doesn't have anything to do with how high their potential is(although since potential isn't the end all be all, they could end up being good anyway).

You know I read another poster saying the same thing.

I wish I could find his post; he explained it well.

But basically the guy said he just always lets the CPU draft for him.

I guess I might as well do that too.....

Kinda lame, but I'd rather get decent talent even though I'll just basically click one button and not get to decide....Lesser of 2 evils I guess...

Yeah, the only problem I have with the cpu drafting for me is if they choose a players who I already have a good player at that position or have a good prospect there. I actually planned on letting the cpu draft for me the first year, but said what the hell and decided to give it one last shot to get some good potential players and I made out pretty well. I have my future ace who throws 100, with a high 80's potential. Just have to hope he pans out.

Also if the freezing of drafted position players isn't fixed in the upcoming patch, there's no reason to draft anything but pitchers(unless you sim and don't play the games). But I have to pray it gets fixed(I have faith in the dev team, they made a pretty good game this year and they seem dedicated to getting it right), because I have a pretty nice 2b I'm looking forward to playing with that I drafted.

Wait how do I clear the cache?

And I can't confirm that there are player clones, that does explain this 3rd baseman I got named Goose Gilkey who looks exactley like ARod and has ARods swing and he is already an 81 at age 23.

But I would rather do the draft myself because you can usually trade a minorleaguer or 2 to get the top guys and I kinda like to see some of the players that are drafted that way I know who to look for in the coming years to make a big impact.

I wish there was a way to train players and maybe add potential to players and stuff. Like in NBA 2k10 you get points for milestones you hit during the season like number of all-stars and winning streaks and then you can improve different aspects of your players game.
Because its not like only the first round players become good. There are tons of players who were drafted in the later rounds who worked hard and made significant impacts on their teams.

I'm in year 2013 of my fantasy drafted franchise and currently have 4 guys who are either AAA or MLB and their potentials are all 89 or higher. I even have a SS who is rated a 78 after one year and is only 20 years old, with a potential of 97!!!!!! I did all my drafts and I basically fired all my staff and hired better personnel. I look for really young guys 22 and under who are prototypical players at their respective position. Worked for both my franchises. Good luck.... Oh and don't bother drafting pitchers, the pitching progression is flawed. I've won cy young awards with 20+ wins and went down (-3) the following year... it's BS.
