The game of football nowadays is all about having speed rushers on the ends whether it be a DE in the 4-3 or an OLB in the 3-4.

Hell, my favorite college football team, WVU, runs a 3-3-5 and come on the ends with either DB's or OLB's. No matter what though they go towards the outside shoulder and try to get up field. Why would a CB go directly at a 300 pound lineman? He wouldn't do that. OLB's and DE's won't as well unless they have an OT off balance. Laws of physics in proportion to weight advantage. EA proposes this is the way by sucking DE's and OLB's right into OT's.

Ends always try to get upfield first to the outside shoulder. If the defender sees they have the OT off balance to the outside they get back to the inside with all types of moves. SEE DWIGHT FREENEY. He's a master at this. OT's have to respect his speed as far as getting upfield on the rush and then have to protect against the inside move. That's lethal.

Overall, the best speed rushers in the game can also get back and help against the run by cutting off their momentum of getting upfield and coming back to the play where an alley is usually forming. A good example would be a draw play where the OT is baiting the DE to get upfield. This would help the draw plays immensley in EA football games. The best inside LB's can fill this void by getting off blocks and filling gaps.

I think the link above is a good example of Dwight Freeney. You'll notice the respect that OT's have for him because their first step on a passing down is always backwards. Freeney's first move is to always get upfield first and once he sees he has an OT off balance he goes into a an array of moves. In this video he uses a swim move, a speed rush to the outside shoulder of the OT, a spin move and a bull rush just to name a few.

Also take note, I used this link because it shows QB's running for their lives by eluding the pocket. Notice though, they don't elude the pocket until the line protection breaks down. They don't elude the pocket directly after the snap is taken.
