Yeah, I'm actually really impressed. Now, I believe I understand the after-touch mechanic so here is my best guess. I believe you hit either up to throw or down and up to lob the ball. Once you do that, your QB will begin his throwing animation by either stepping up into the throw or stepping back to throw something like a screen. While he is in his throwing animation, I believe we are to basically "aim" our passes before the ball leaves his hand. It wouldn't make sense to do it after it comes out. That would be akin to putting backspin on a ball in Tiger Woods golf after it's already in the air, very unrealistic.
I believe this just tells the ball which direction to come off of his hand. If you hit nothing, the ball will go straight at the receiver, which isn't bad on routes like comebacks and out routes right next to the sidelines, but on posts, slants, crosses, flies, and stuff like that, you want to lead the receiver.
Now, you have to couple this with the timing mechanic so you can't just go throwing the ball out in front of your receiver but at the wrong time because that would just make the ball go even farther away from him. So, all in all, I'm extremely pleased with the direction the passing and running mechanics have gone. It's a very simple concept but one that is going to be very difficult to master.
Now, I saw someone complaining about when the QB is taking off running but still scanning the field how they might have an issue flipping through their receivers and might either pick the wrong one and throw a pick or never get to the one and get sacked. To that I say, exactly!!! This is exactly the same mindset that runs through a QBs head on the field when he's got the whole defense running after him to sack him. It's harder to locate the open receiver on plays like that and it shouldn't be as easy as just pressing a button and the ball goes right where you want it.
Sorry this is long guys, but I just wanted to take a second to clear this up. Hope it helps.Comment

While I am looking forward to getting my hands on this game, I think people are over-thinking this passing deal. I would not be surprised if this is on some Tiger Woods after-touch effect stuff which is not good.
If Nat. Mot. nails this the first time out, all the kudos in the world but knowing that Nat. Mot. has never made a video game before, I'm not going to over excite myself, not to mention, this game was first announced in 07 (or was it 06? Hmm) and here it is 3yrs later, the game is not out, yet, and they can't even get basic "little things" like fatigue and injuries in the game There are still a few suspect looking things going on in this game, as well, so getting hands on will tell.
2 weeks and 2 days left...although I think I will be ballin' with BB a lil earlier.Just cuz you pour syrup on ish....Comment

Re: Backbreaker Video: Passing Game
Correct me if i'm wrong, but did the video say you can lead the ball AFTER its thrown?
I don't particularly enjoy that ballistic missile stuff.
I hope thats not true, and that you have to lead simultaneously as you throw it.Comment

Re: Backbreaker Video: Passing Game
They never specified exactly when you do it.

Re: Backbreaker Video: Passing Game
I know, I used to think the same thing.....the narrator says "immediately after the pass"....I think he meant to say immediately after passing with the stick.
I know this sounds weird and I usually never say stuff like this...but trust me, it is the way I described....Steve should be able to confirm this when he gets his copy.Last edited by Afrikan; 05-16-2010, 09:47 PM.Comment

Re: Backbreaker Video: Passing Game
Yeah, this is why I'm lost with it. Don't forget that they call it "after-touch", which sounds like something that happens after you release the ball (like Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball on SNES). It didn't look like the ball really did anything mid-flight in the tutorial video and that would be ridiculous if that's how it works, but I'm guessing they wouldn't do something as stupid as that.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Backbreaker Video: Passing Game
Based on the way the ball comes out the the quarterbacks hand on some of the passes, it looks like after touch happens before the ball leaves his hand. It comes out awkward and does not quite match the arm motion of the quarterback when after touch is used, that's my guess. It looks very similar to how 2k looked when using the total control passing feature.Comment

Yeah, I tried to tell you guys what it was like in my previous post. It's called "after-touch" because it happens after you push the stick forward to throw. I would assume it would work a lot more fluidly than most are thinking, something along the lines of pushing the stick up, and then immediately pushing it to the direction of the player's body you want to throw it to. Let's not forget these guys are from Oxford, so they are not stupid.Comment
