No reviews until 6/1

It's been reported from different places (from Steve_OS, and Pasta on Twitter) that there's a review embargo on BB until the release date. So what we know is probably all we will know barring some pretty impressive videos the final 2 fridays before release, and the demo hopefully landing before 6/1.

Since this topic has mentioned in other threads I decided to start one about this news.

Thoughts?

I guess I am just disappointed. It's pretty clear the only way the rest of the questions many of us have will be answered is by full reviews and information that don't come from NM. The (tea)spoonfulls of gameplay we've been getting aren't enough for anyone who isn't already buying it to make a decision, and people like me who really are just offline franchise players are even more starved for information and are waiting for the 'everything you expect to be in it is there' quote to be come true. Perhaps they'll have a media blitz the final week before release, would be great.

Good or bad more information needs to come out, with the release of RDR and UFC, probably 2 of the biggest games this quarter, the 2 weeks prior to release it's not a good thing for BB. The demo at best may not be out until the week prior, and if it isn't then we're looking at release day or later.

Just dont buy it until the reviews are released. Its there loss. Im a BB suporter, but Im not buying it until I play the demo, and read some reviews for non demo features.

Most Games do some type of embargo on reviews. Red Dead did one till the 15th, recently. It's a way to allow all media to share their views around the same time and manage the 'campaign' for the game. Could be for other reasons, but shouldn't necessarily be viewed as a negative.

This leads me to a few concerns, but it may mean nothing at the end.

1. What is there to hide?

2. Is their confidence from the developers that the game will do well?

I'll consider the demo and people I trust for their take on the game.

Still a first day purchase for me. I like the concept of the game and want to support it and have no doubt I will get enough playing time for my $50.

This is a new game and many reviewers and game sites are loyal to Madden and EA. I just think they are worried some reviewers will intentionally focus on what it doesn't have compared to Madden which is alot.

This, I really want the game to do well, and I already told myself I won't get madden this year so I really hope BB pans out. I need to play a demo though so I know I can enjoy it.

I think one reason they might be doing this is so they don't have reviewers and game sites playing the game for an hour and writing a review on it. They are giving Steve a copy tomorrow but he can't say anything about it??? I think we all realise this game will need an adjustment period seeing as it's so different from what we're use to so they want the reviewers to become accustomed to the game before writing a review. Steve will have played the game for 11 days before we see a review from him. I think that's a good thing.

It would only affect those that are day-one purchasers really. Given what APF went through I think they need to take this approach. IGN went so far as to try to compare Madden '08 to APF2K8 - APF in it's first next gen iteration w/o a license and Madden in it's 3rd iteration with the license. It's not a fair comparison. Let's not forget most of these sites have never - NEVER - rated Madden low, even when it sucked. I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but imo it's obvious certain games just won't be judged on their own merits. Madden typically gets reviews that places it near or above a game like NBA2K, which is ridiculous.

I'm just about positive Backbreaker will garner mostly negative to lukewarm reviews. It's a first year title w/o the licenses. Given everything they already have to work against it'd be that much more of a burden to have to work against reviewers hammering the game on issues they weren't willing to hold Madden '06 to when it came out.

Thats a poor excuse.. Ever since join this site Steve has done a great job of reviewing games.. I'm sure he took more then an hour to review them..

I wasn't trying to say anything about Steve just that they are giving the game to reviewers early. Why give them a copy early if they won't let them talk about it unless they are worried some(not referring to Steve) will review it before they get fully accustomed to the controls, camera etc.
Can I ask if you plan to buy this game? It seems you only make negative posts about it. Sorry if I am wrong with that. I only make negative posts about Madden so I suppose there has to be someone to balance it out.:wink:

I'm 50/50 on renting it... I have a problem with the no injury, no hot route, no fatigue and I read no motion by the offense. Plus I really don't know about the playbook, due teams play differently. I feel their is alot of mystery about this game outside of the game physics..
