someone should do a "what if" franchise
for example, if Kobe Bryant never got traded from the Charlotte Hornets to the Los Angeles Lakers, etc...

Re: someone should do a "what if" franchise
The problem with almost all of the draft day drafts you guys mentioned is that they were all prearranged and not true trades. Golden State and Toronto agreed to draft players for each other, Hornets drafted Kobe for LA, etc.
True What-Ifs would be what if the Lakers traded Kobe instead of Shaq, or kept both... What if Nash got paid by Cuban instead of going to the Suns, what if Vince and T Mac stayed in Toronto, what if Lakers drafted Kidd for Bynum like Kobe wanted... What if Darko dropped to 5th or later in the Draft.
Redoing Previous drafts based on how players turned out is a good one. Keep each year's draft order but draft each team based on how a player is now instead of how they were expected to be. Have Durant in Portland, Oden elsewhere.
For example: 2006 NBA Draft
1. Rajon Rondo (Toronto)
2. Brandon Roy (Chicago)
3. Rudy Gay (Charlotte)
And on and on. Guys like Powe are raised into the First round and Adam Morrison drops tremendously and etc. etc.
And even though certain teams would've no doubt improved or gotten worse, we keep the same draft order for 2007...
1. Kevin Durant (Portland)
2. Al Hordford (Seattle/OKC)
3. Joakim Noah (Atlanta) (or whomever you'd say is the third best player)
Glen Davis comes into the first round, Aaron Brooks is a lottery pick, and you get the idea.
It'd probably take a little while to figure out who goes where but I think it'd be an interesting roster that a lot of teams wish they could do over themselves.Comment

Re: someone should do a "what if" franchise
What if the Clippers had stayed together with Brand, Odom, Maggette, Andre Miller, Richardson, Wilcox, etc.
or what if the Bulls had stayed together. Brand, Crawford, Artest, Brad Miller, Ron Mercer, etc.
or following the what if drafts. What if in 1998 Michael Olowakandi (sp?) doesn't go first ahead of Carter, Jamison, Pierce, Jason Williams, Nowitzki, Bibby, Ricky Davis, Rashard Lewis, Al Harrington, Nazr Mohammed, Rafer Alston, etc. Imagine how that draft would turn out if it was re-done.
EDIT: we should all commit to 1 of these "What If's" and see how it turns out.Last edited by st0rmb11; 05-31-2010, 07:30 AM.
