Re: 2011 Winter Classic
Good game, solid selection for a showcase game.
I think counting on D.C. to be cold enough for a hockey game (this past winter notwithstanding) is always dicey. Heinz should be a nice venue for what's turning out to be one of the better rivalry games in hockey.Comment

Re: 2011 Winter Classic
There's also going to be a second outdoor game next season. It's supposedly Montreal/Calgary at McMahon Stadium in February.
Liking the Washington/Pittsburgh matchup. That game is gonna get massive views in the States.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: 2011 Winter Classic
It's times like this that I love to have relatives with Pens season tickets. I'll be at Heinz for this. Excited to see the one meaningful game of the regular season for the Caps.Comment

Re: 2011 Winter Classic
One way to pull in alot more viewers, putting Crosby/Ovie in the same game. Add to the fact it's the Winter Classic, which gets more views than the average NHL game anyway, wow I can't wait to see the viewer numbers for this game. Gonna be great hockey. My Teams:
NCAA FB-Oregon Ducks
NCAA BB-Gonzaga Bulldogs
NBA-Portland Trail Blazers
NFL-Carolina Panthers
MLB-San Francisco Giants
NHL-Los Angeles Kings
Won't change this signature until Oregon wins a national championship (started 3/10/10)

Re: 2011 Winter Classic
Apparently Bettman just announced that the Caps will be HOSTING a Winter Classic in the next 2-3 years.
Ladies and Gentlemen, get read for the same 4-6 teams every year! (Though I can't wait until we host, and hope it's against Pittsburgh or Philly)
Maybe the tentative schedule is like this:
2011: Caps-Pens
2012: Wings-Hawks
2013: Flyers-Caps
2014: Hawks-PensComment

Re: 2011 Winter Classic
I won't complain about the teams involved in the Winter Classic.
I don't care about the 2nd outdoor game though. The Flames vs. The Habs at McMahon stadium does nothing for me. The NHL is going to run out of iconic venues/good teams soon unless they want the same teams to appear (you could argue it's already happened with the Pens and Habs set to play their 2nd outdoor game already).Comment

Re: 2011 Winter Classic
Remember that the Winter Classic is an NBC event, not an NHL event. They pick the teams. CBC will always have an East vs West matchup to maximize ratings.
And yes, just like NBC's "Game of the Week", it is going to be the same teams over and over. I'm guessing 2012 will be DET/CHI/BOS vs the Rangers at the New Meadowlands. The next Canadian one will probably be Canucks/Leafs.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
