Bring Back Player Personalities And School Supensions

I remember I used to play NCAA 06 on the PS2 in dynasty mode and before i played a game, ive been informed my star TE got in trouble for cheating on a test. This gave me an option to choose how long he was suspended for. If I put it to low, or too high repeatedly, the NCAA will keep a close my eye on you and suspend you for televised games and scholarships.

This should factor into recruiting too, determining how much you discipline your players should factor how much a recruit will want to sign. For example when Bob Knight controlled Texas Tech in college bball, very few top recruits came there because he was too hard on his players.

Lastly, the personalities in recruits should factor your decision to pursuit them. I remember when i controlled Auburn in NCAA 06, i've had countless players getting suspended for bad conduct which scared me away from signing a top HS receiver who had a D in academics and a F in conduct.

Bringing this feature back will bring another level in dynasty making it a deeper mode.

Haha, yeah those were actually a really nice, realistic touch. I would love to see them return with even realer crimes/reasons for suspension.

Imagine seeing these before your big game:

ROLB #52 is being investigated for the beating of 3 Phi Omega Delta sorority members - Would you like to play him or sit him?

WR #81 has been charged with operating a motorized scooter while under the influence of alcohol - Would you like to play him or sit him?

K #9 has been charged with beastiality after a Delta Delta Delta fraternity was raided by campus police - Would you like to play him or sit him?

QB# 12 has been accused of scalping tickets - Would you like to play him or sit him?

CB# 27 has been placed under arrest after dealing cocaine - Would you like to grant his scholarship release so he can transfer to the University of Florida?

I agree 100%...never should have taken it out, added more depth and strategy.

i didn't think it was that great the way it was implemented back then. it was always your starters and after a few season there would be a ton of teams on probation. don't know if they ever fixed that issue on last-gen, but last time i played it, it was like that.

I'm kind of glad it hasn't been added to current-gen yet and hopefully "if" it ever is added, they make it more balanced/fair.

Re: Bring Back Player Personalities And School Supensions

I loved this feature on the PS2 versions. I am all for this feature making a comeback, but if they tone down the number of infractions. I remember there was a major issue in NCAA 2005 where a lot of schools got put on probation because the violations were overdone. Heck, I could not go 2 weeks without a major violation. In one year of my dynasty with USC, Oregon could not play for the National Championship because of a post season ban and they were the number 2 team in the country at the time.

Another probably with this feature was you only had so many points you could use on discipline before the season started so if you ran out of points before the season was over, then you could not hand out anymore discipline. Thus eventually, almost every school got put on probation.

Re: Bring Back Player Personalities And School Supensions

I seem to remember hearing somewhere (don't ask me for a source because I don't remember) that they axed this feature because of a complaint from the NCAA.

It was a problem because they had players on these real-life teams getting into made-up trouble, which apparently reflected poorly on those schools and players (we all know we edit it so the players are real too). So the NCAA had them cut it.

Like I said don't remember where I picked that up from but it is certainly feasible that it could have happened. Maybe someone who knows more can give a better explanation.

It was a pretty cool feature but it really needs to be tweaked

Putting this back in would be a gamekiller for me. It drove me nuts when I had to suspend guys for missing class when I knew that the actual player was academic all-conf. I also hated the points system. I always ran out of points before the end of the year and wound up on probation. It could also open up EA to all manner of lawsuits. What happens when ROLB #12 for East Dakota St. gets suspended for something in game. The real ROLB #12 would have a hell of a defamation of character case against EA. They've already had enough trouble with the Sam Keller case. They need to stay away from this issue.

Yeah, along with it only being star players and starters, the point system made no sense at all and made the feature worthless. Why would you have to spend your budget on 'discipline,' which only included suspending players? I shouldn't have to choose spend recruiting money on the ability to suspend a player. The worst thing was if you went on probation and couldn't accept a bowl bid. I was okay with losing scholarships, but not being able to make a bowl was a killer.

I can also understand the NCAA not liking this, but if that wasn't the case I wouldn't be against a completely redone discipline system. There would be no points and you could simply discipline a player or not, and your decisions would be monitored by the NCAA. I shouldn't not be able to discipline a player... just stupid.
