I wouldn't call it homerism...I just seem to be the only one who notices that Rex Ryan is building his team as if it's a Madden franchise. He doesn't care that they probably won't have any chemistry. Just the highest OVR ratings.

I am honestly surprised that the 49ers are tied with Arizona. Having lost Kurt Warner and Boldin, I will be shicked if they even "have" an offense this year. The Cads were the poster child of "one trick poney" these last few years. The 49ers aren't great by any means, but they are the best left in the division without question. It's their division to lose.

I am also shocked by NYJ being better than NE. Yes, the Jets played well in the post season, but NE won the division last year and I don't see why they wont again this year. The whole team had a bad game against the Ravens in the playoffs. I just don't see NE doing that again this year. I don't expect Brady to hoist a trophy this season, but...

I tend to agree but these ratings seem to have a layer of logic that most disagree with on some level.

I was surprised to the see the Lions so low still. I'm not saying that they should be in the 80s by any means, but i think theyve made enough improvements to their d line and offensive weapons to jump into the low 70s. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a better record than Chicago this year.

... of course it's still a complete mystery as to how these ratings are calculated or if they're just totally arbitrary anyways, so perhaps the point is moot.

I know. that totaly isn't like when NE went after "trouble makers" Correy Dillon and Randy Moss

on another note ... Ravens are too high .. i like how people complain about the jets but not the ravens ...

Jets have a better Corners ... Better LBS ... as a whole ... ... Better Oline ... Better Receivers IMO ... not saying Ravens aren't a bad team but they shouldn't be that high ...cause they shouldn't be higher then the Bengals .. Cause the bengals got better ...

Carolina's too low ... the best 1-2 punch in the backfield ... the best under 6' ft player IN THE LEAGUE .. well now that i think about it there rating is just right they lost a safety .. an important safety at that .. they lost there best Def player in Peppers ...

Lions r too low they offseason was probably the best out of anyteam from the draft to the Fa there Def is looking ok ... they have found a #2 so the other teams cant focus on Calvin as much ... they brought in another good tight end a running back that i think would of been #1 in the draft (outta rbi's of course) if not the the concussions ...

Giants r too low ... injuries plagued there secondary ... there Wr's r good ... there Running backs r Good ... there Line is top 5 ... there Def line will show up this yea under the new coach ... an they fixed there 2ndary not to mention there new coach is the reason the bills had the most Ints of ne team last year ...

i could go on about other teams but i don't feel like it
lol? Jets do not have a better Oline than the Ravens. Ravens have Gaither, Grubbs, Birk and Oher, combined with McClain also blocking.

They also do not have better recievers, unless you think Braylon Edwards is better than either Boldin or Mason. Both are reliable for atleast 1000 yards, 7 TDs.

Jets also do not have 3 of the best players at their position on defense with Ray Lewis (LB), Haloti Ngata (DT/DE) and Ed Reed (FS)

I honestly think that the "play now" and online team ratings are an overall team rating Donny assigns to them. This is just conjecture on my part. When you start a franchise mode, look at the team ratings and they are different. Do the same thing when roster updates come out, the team ratings hardly, if ever, change. however, they change a lot if you start a new franchise.

I also recall Donny saying something last year after the Richard Seymore trade that that would lower NE's rating by a point or two and will raise Oaklands.

Honestly, do the franchise thing and see what the team ratings "really" are. I think that is a way to meta game online play as well.

ummm so everyone agrees with the Eagles rating.???
because i think its horrible. lol

Departures: McNabb, Westbrook (missed 8 games), Kevin Curtis (missed 13 games), Reggie Brown (9 catches in 2009), Shawn Andrews (not healthy past 2 years), Jason Babin, Darren Howard (33 years old), Chris Clemons (situational player), Will Witherspoon (Great player, didnt agree w/ release), Chris Gocong (more of a 3-4 linebacker; wrong defense), Sheldon Brown (great Eagle, didnt agree with trade), Sean Jones.

Arrivals: Mike Bell (powerback, change-up to McCoy), Hank Baskett (Great Special Teams player, forget the SB), Darryl Tapp (Good pass rusher, wasnt used at all by Jim Mora jr.), Brandon Graham (high expectations), Ernie Sims (Great OLB, makes plays), Alex Hall (DE/OLB. Gocong-like), Trevard Lindley (impressed in this weeks OTAs), Marlin Jackson (out for the season), Nate Allen (Starting FS).

                      Didnt include other draft picks.

The only Major losses we had were McNabb, Will Witherspoon and Sheldon Brown.
Eagles expect that Kolb will do fine (i do as well). Ernie Sims is a great addition at linebacker and people are forgeting that Stewart Bradley is returning this season. Ellis Hobbs, Joselio Hanson and others are battleling for the left CB spot (Hobbs expected to start, Hanson will be Nickle).

They lost their best WR and their best TE this offseason and it's not like they were loaded to begin with. I'm looking at their roster right now and I just can not see a 78. Other than that though, every thing else looks fine.

are u kidding about the o line?.. Jets have the best o line in the league .. granted they lost Fanaca but they most really think that kid is good to let go someone like fanaca ... a Richardson (Fb) is Top fullbacks easily ...

umm as for the WR ... lets see ... Boldin and Mason vs ... Holmes, Edwards, Cotchery, Clowney, and probably smith ... i think i'll take 4or 5 over 2 ppl any day...

Ravens dline is better ... but the Jets secondary is better by far ... one player in the 2ndary doesn't make a 2ndary good ...

an i alrdy debated about the Lb's ... Ray lewis is only one person ... the rookie is unproven .. Johnson is a flag magnet ...

Well, despite the fact you were trying to humiliate me, you just reminded me of how I traded for Derrick Burgess in a Madden 09 Patriots franchise (that was back when I had no concept of the differences between 4-3 and 3-4, so I kept him as a DE).

The thing is, though, why are people so excited about the Jets' offseason pickups? Who did they get? An aging runningback who is quite obviously done to replace one who had a really good season just last year. They got a human population machine at CB to replace Sheppard. He's probably better, but not by much. They got Santonio Holmes, who is suspended for a quarter of the season. Nobody knows for sure how Mark Sanchez will develop, but all he really did last season was throw it to the other team and hand it to his running backs. Of course, you have to let that go because he was a rookie.

My bottom line is that it's not really a question of whether the Jets are one of the top teams in the league--it's a question of whether they're even better this year than they were last year.

As for the Patriots, they lost players who didn't really play well for them while they were in New England like Watson, Baker, Thomas, and Springs. They picked up Torry Holt, who hasn't really been good for a while, but he sure is better than Sam Aiken in the #3/4 WR position. They drafted 2 tight ends with a lot of potential as well as a CB who should see a lot of time when the Pats play in the nickel (also, they had 12 draft picks in total...they're bound to have at least one solid contributor from the start--compare to the Jets' FOUR picks).

The Patriots have upgraded quite a bit, but it slipped under the radar, unlike the Jets, who seem to have done the opposite. I think the two teams should be CLOSE in overall rating, but the Patriots should be maybe 1-2 points higher. The AFC East is going to be a very close division this season, minus the Bills, and the team ratings should reflect that.
