I didn't honestly expect the Madden team to improve the actual announcing even with Gus. But did anyone else see at about 2:10 the still horrid animation rendering (plus the user controlled receiver able to just completely disregard his route for a long cheap pass, oh boy, more worries with online cheeseheads). But the receiver goes into a toe tip sidelines catch animation into a full sprint just before getting tackled...? huh?! really guys!? Madden, c'mon!??! UUUUGGGHHH!!!

Re: New interview/footage at ign
I was a bit disappointed that franchise modes had taken a back seat to this 3-on-3 but after watching that vid im actually looking forward to it.
The only thing now is will there be any lag? FIFA does a pretty good job with its 10-on-10 games so this should be alright with 14 less players.Comment

Re: New interview/footage at ign
Wow. The only thing Madden 11 had going for it imo was the possibility of Gus Johnson bringing the commentary to life. Guess this vid rules that out.
1.Barely any improvement to how commentary was delivered and no change to Collinsworth dialogue at all.
2.Locomotion non-existant.
3.Same bad glitchy rendering of the same tackle animations.
4.The camera pulled so far back on the passing plays I got a nose bleed.
Add to that no franchise improvements, even in online which has no salary cap or player contracts and...
Madden 11 = Madden 10.2Comment

Re: New interview/footage at ign
What's up with the boost features? So you play a lot at QB your QB is artificially upgraded beyond what he is in real life?
That's part of the arcade stuff they need to keep out of the game. Same with the franchise bonuses you can buy.Comment

Gameplay looks better, but every word that guy said just infuriated me further and further.Comment

Re: New interview/footage at ign
I did. They said they brought in new audio people, they were bringing in new commentary, etc. I was ready for Madden to Join NBA2K and MLB the Show in the "next Gen" presentation category. I know I need to really see more than I have, but what I have seen has been garbage. They have been so tight lipped this year, theres no way they would release a clip with gus johnson in it if it didn't resemble the final product so Im going to assume what we heard is what we are going to get.I didn't honestly expect the Madden team to improve the actual announcing even with Gus. If it is as bad as it sounds, Madden 11 will be the official "death" of the Madden Franchise, at least in my life. And again, I will assume in others too. This will be the 3rd commentary on next gen and if its jacked up, there are no excuses other than "They dont know what the heck they are doing" and truthfully, Im about sick of all this crap "it takes 2 years to do franchise" and this and that, its like enough already you liars. They blatantly lied last year about the stadium sounds, etc but noone really got on them that hard, now just the chain of events this week and I just think its over. I think we are in a new "generation" and they are just going to do them, and Madden has become a game most of us have no interest playing.Comment

Re: New interview/footage at ign
Gameplay (or camera?) looked slightly better. Commentary was absolutely horrible....it's either an early build or I'm convinced EA Madden just doesn't get it.
Without franchise updates I would say that I'm going to continue to play Madden '10, although I haven't even played that in the last 8 months. Thanks for saving me $70!Comment

Re: New interview/footage at ign
Sounds like the same commentary as last year, just with a new voice. This is just what I was concerned with. Back in May, I sent a tweet to Ronnie Morales, Audio Designer on Madden NFL 11.
@EA_Romo is the VO technology/sequencing with Gus in Madden 11 any different than in previous years - or is it just a great new voice?
Surprisingly, he wrote back. Cool guy.
@SeventhWard we have a new system that helps drive speech and presentation at once for a more robust package than ever before.
Okay so - keeping in mind that this TINY piece of video that we saw is NOT from the final retail build - is this it? That can't be right, can it? The guy wouldn't lie to me. No way. Right?
Getting Gus Johnson is great. It was a good decision and Congratulations for getting that to happen. But his great emotional energetic voice alone doesn't SOLVE THE PROBLEM with Madden Commentary. I want to give Mr. Morales the benefit of the doubt here. I really hope that it doesn't sound like that in the final game....but like a character in a George Lucas movie, I've got a bad feeling about this.
This is the same sequencing (my term, don't know the correct one) we've always had, and it's OLD. Boring. Robotic. Tired. Sure, Gus is much more animated that Tom Hammond - but it's a band-aid approach.
Sometimes we can do our MOST creative work on the LEAST important problems. The more important problems often demand quick solutions, so we fall back on familiar methods. - Paraphrased From Some Guy's Blog
The little things. The details. In every Madden, it's what they miss. For Madden '11, they've got "new lighting" but once again its not Progressive Lighting. Why not? It's technically possible and in a 2010 game it's expected. Hell, even NCAA 10 had it. Why take the time to implement a new feature and not complete it? Like Online Franchise.
"New features" are rushed into the game before they're truly complete and, to use the word the suits use, the CONSUMER is the one that suffers.
I'm frustrated. I'm frustrated that Madden is a game that has to be made within a rigid, flawed big-studio structure. I'm frustrated that the talented guys who make Madden aren't being challenged, hence the lack of true innovation. I'm frustrated that the combination of these things gives the impression that the fans seem to have more passion than the guys making the game.

Re: New interview/footage at ign
I haven't played many sports games but I recently bought Nfl 2k5.. And before this gets in a argument about the games...I just think that if they make the commentary presentation like 2k5, MANY people would feel different about the overall game.. Right now it's just sooo bland that they nitpick on the other parts.. The overall game looks good though..Comment

That could be the reason why.
