Re: NHL 11 Spike TV Trailer

I think collisions HAD to be the first thing they applied physics to because I don't think it would work the other way around. I'm no dev by any means, but it just seems like physical contact physics would have to be the first thing applied because if it was the skating and the collisions were animation driven, the transition animations between skating and contact would look way off.

If you look back at the Backbreaker vids, the contact was the first things they were touting. Even now, the running in Backbreaker in the finished, full-physics product don't always look perfect. I think if NHL had full physics skating before contact, it would be really difficult to tell the engine to stop the skating physics and transition to the animation-driven contact without it looking terrible.

I may be way off here though.

Seen this the night it debuted on Spike and the only thing that bothered me was the first showing of a stick breaking. The physics of the part that flew off looked a lil off but I know it's still early. Can't wait for the demo..
Just cuz you pour syrup on ish....

I am not lying. I only work 8-3pm and that day goes so fast. I don't know why, but I like it. Any way I am hoping for a gameplay video soon. I am hoping that Littman does some of those videos he did last year. Where he looked like he was being secretly.

I agree, the faceoffs aren't 'wowing' but they're still better than last year's. I like the direction they're taking. Surely they were just showing a snippit of what can be done with their physics. It certainly has me impressed. That's cool if I'm skating into the boards I'm not going to stop like into some unrealistic barrier.

I'm still playing NHL '10 and it's a great game. I re-worked the rosters to fix the diversity in ratings so not everybody is a 78-86 and re-worked the minor leagues and worked in future prospects as well and my Be-A-GM has never been better. Even got Seguin and Hall go to the Oilers and Bruins, respectively without creating them, just by the actual draft.

If there is one thing I'll remember from my Xbox 360 gaming, it'll be EA's NHL series. Hands down, the best sports game I am interested in. With sliders and the ratings, you can make a fairly realistic brand of hockey with what they have given us.

Man I hate the sound of that.

Although I haven't bought the 2K game since 2K7, and I prefer EA's game...but I hope the 2K game makes a return soon. Nothing beats having a choice.

Until 2k actually puts money and marketing behind their sports line, and builds an engine from the ground up and throws away all the broken code that still permeates the game its never going to get to where it should be by now. (the same could be said for MLB2k) I do agree that choice is a good thing though.

2K does a lot of things right but it's not delivered how I'd like. It's also not nearly as much fun to play as EA's game. Then again, I didn't spend much time with any of the 2K games for very long and I've put countless hours into EA's series since 08.

Looking awesome. I hope EA keep adding good stuff in the future though, seems like 2K is leaving the next gen market. I do wonder why 2K sucked so much at PR-ing their stuff, like faceoffs, boardplay etc...oh well.
                  NHL11 looks great!.
