Re: Saving The Big XII...
I don't think the 10 remaining teams even want to have a championship game. I KNOW Texas and OU wouldn't want one... without divisions, they are certainly going to be in the top 1-2 spots most years, and a conference championship game would just open up the possibility of having the best team lose out on a chance to play for the BCS Title.Ryan Spencer

Re: Saving The Big XII...
I think it's higher for Nebraska because they plan to leave after this season. Colorado has said they are willing to stay for two more. It will be interesting to see what the Big XII chooses to do for the 2011 season if there are 11 teams.Comment

Re: Saving The Big XII...
You need 12 teams for a conference championship game though. Jerry Jones will not be pleased with 10 teams.Comment

Re: Saving The Big XII...
Well with 10 teams there is really no need for a conference championship (other than the fact the NCAA won't allow it.) I'm sure they'll do like the Pac-whatever use to do. 9 conference matchups, plus 3/4 OOC games. That way there can really only be one possible undefeated team in the conference at season's end.Roll Tide!

Re: Saving The Big XII...
Isn't there talk of changing this rule though?
If the rule doesn't change, they aren't going to add two low-tier teams just to be able to play a conference championship game. Makes no financial sense.Ryan Spencer

Re: Saving The Big XII...
If you're in charge of Texas, do you want the SEC expanding to your state without you as part of the deal? Do you really want your biggest rival in the state in the SEC? Do you want A&M to have that advantage in recruiting (stay in Texas AND play in the best football conference)? Do you want the SEC on more tvs in Texas? Do you want their to be a chance (however small) of an SEC Championship Game in Texas at Jerry World?
I will say though, it was pretty impressive to see UT flex like that. Was really surprised to see OU lay down and follow them around. The plan almost worked too and would have, if the Aggies hadn't gotten in the way. I wish they would come to the SEC anyway.Last edited by trobinson97; 06-14-2010, 07:06 PM.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Saving The Big XII...
TAMU definitely won Expansion 2010.
They showed that, despite the fact that they're a .500 team this decade, they're a serious force and can't be bossed around by Texas and Oklahoma.
The fact that Texas tried to pull the "we'll never play you again and we're going to make millions!" and TAMU said "do that **** but we're going to get some SEC speed" and Texas was the one who blinked is remarkable.Comment

Re: Saving The Big XII...
I'm glad Texas is staying put and it seems the BIG XII will indeed be saved. I really did not want a Pac 16 Super Conference, that may work in Basketball (though some would argue it doesn't), but not in Football. That's just too many teams IMO.
So does this mean the Big XII is the new Big 10 and the Big 10 is the new Big XII?Comment

I've heard just the opposite, that FOX was the one that stepped up and offered the big bucks that allowed Dan Bebee to convince Texas to stay.Ryan Spencer
