If SEC teams playing a conference game every other year in Texas is enough for them to cancel expansion than the SEC's fearitude is at an all time high.

I don't think it had anything to do with the SEC. Texas just realized it could get a hell of a lot more money by staying put and being able to launch their own TV network.

So they orchestrated this entire charade to get Nebraska and Colorado to leave just so they can launch their own television network?

Well, they realized Colorado and Nebraska were leaving and felt the conference would soon fall apart, so they started exploring a move to the Pac-10. The Pac-10 told them they couldn't have their own network so that caused them to pause for a second. Then Fox (apparently) came in, not wanting ESPN/ABC to get the rights to even more big-time programs and offered a contract that was lucrative enough to get Texas to stay.

I can't tell if some of you really think Texas is afraid of the SEC or if you're kidding.

Texas calls their own shots. They are more powerful than any entity in the SEC. It seems like it's all about money here.

Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M all benefit from the Big 12 (10) staying in tact.

Texas leaked the PAC 16 via Chip Brown 10 days before Colorado went to the PAC 10.

So either Texas is run by evil masterminds or TAMU has a much bigger influence than they want to admit.

I can't tell if some of you really think Texas is afraid of the SEC or if you're kidding.
They are afraid of TAMU going to the SEC.

That is an undeniable fact. It single-handedly canceled UT's expansion plans.

Texas is the one who called off the TAMU/UT rivalry if TAMU goes to the SEC.

That too is an undeniable fact.

So if Texas is afraid of TAMU going to the SEC and it has nothing to do with TAMU not playing UT, then what is the reason?

Them launching their own network has been in the pipes for quite some time now. Why would Nebraska and Colorado affect that in any way? They wanted to leave and they left, got nothing to do with Texas.

Something will come out at some point in time that will clear things up as to why Texas stayed in the Big XII and I'm guessing it will be $$$$ related.

According to "Texas to PAC 16" insiders, the PAC 16 was planning to make 22+ million dollars.

That fell apart when the #2 Texas school didn't go along with the plan and decided to go to the most televised conference in the country who was about to gain a major foothold in Texas.

Anyone who thinks that TAMU going to the SEC wasn't what broke the PAC 16 up is not thinking correctly.

I'm a little disappointed. I wanted to see major re-alignment.

I wanted to see major realignment as well, but only if Baylor was involved, which they weren't

$22 million is nothing compared to what Texas will get in the Big 12 now. $25 million or more from the TV contract, plus 100% of the profits from their own network, which is expected to make $5 million in its third year and who knows how much after that. Plus they don't have to send their volleyball and softball teams to Oregon or Washington, which would get pretty expensive.

The Big 12 is now officially on the level of the MWC and Big East.

OU and Texas will make more money but the conference will be weaker.

Colorado has been bad but they have the ability to be decent and Nebraska was on their way back.

                            Really?

This conference is still going to be a football powerhouse, and it got about 50 times better in basketball by shedding its two worst teams.

You realize that that information is from the exact same source that was hyping up the 22 million PAC 16 deal, right? And when I say "exact same" I am talking about the exact same author with the exact same sources.

As I said earlier, either Texas's administration is a group of evil geniuses or they're doing some serious damage control.

                              There is no other option.

Well, given those two options I'll go for evil geniuses.

But, I'm sure we'll find out some more concrete information in the next few days. No use continuing this debate, because by tomorrow things might completely change as they have done numerous times already.
