Besides OU and Texas, what does the conference really have?

People were saying that Nebraska and Colorado's best years were behind them but what about Okie State and Texas Tech?

Those two programs just had the best runs of their entire history and didn't even win the Big 12 South. Tech and OSU are both on the decline while Nebraska is on the way back up.

I would much rather have Colorado, a team that has actually won a national title, and Nebraska, a team that has won multiple national titles over teams that haven't even won the Big 12 conference.
That shows the strength of UT and OU. If a high second-tier team performed as well as they did in, say, the Big Ten (an Iowa, for example) they would win the conference. The Big XII is lucky to have consistent high-performing teams in UT and OU. They have a solid mid-section in Okie State, Texas Tech, TAMU, and Mizzou. And even the lowest tier of the Big XII has shown some improvement, with Kansas even going to a BCS bowl and Iowa State winning a bowl game.

The Big XII is still a strong conference. Not as strong as before, but not even remotely approaching the MWC or Big East. It's still a conference that we can both be proud supporters of.

UT got owned? They get rid of the conference championship game (a roadblock to their BCS success), have the opportunity to play the North teams such as Kansas, Iowa State, and Kansas State every season, have increased the amount of money that they will be getting from previous seasons, have asserted their sheer dominance in their conference, and oh, did I mention, they get their own TV network and will keep the money a la Notre Dame.

If that's a massive plate of ownage, I want one too!

Which will cost them money in the long run.

They'll increase the amount of money.

However, at this point they have to increase it to 22 million or UT's spokesperson was full of crap.

have asserted their sheer dominance in their conference
Except that their #2 rival clearly got the best of them in expansion.

they get their own TV network and will keep the money a la Notre Dame.
Except "their own TV network" won't come remotely close to Notre Dame's TV network nor Notre Dame's bowl share.

Any way you slice it Cebby, they get more money, in a conference that gives them a better chance to win, with their own TV network. I'm just not seeing the ownage here.

They spent the last two weeks trying to get into the PAC 10.

                  They failed.

They failed entirely because of the TAMU/SEC merger.

                  Call it what you want.

I consider a "lesser" school in its own state dictating where the #1 school in the country goes "ownage."

Those are your own conclusions largely based on assumptions. At the end of the day, UT declined to join the Pac 10. They will take their increased chance of championships and money with a conference that is allowing them to make their own TV network (a much bigger deal than you are giving it credit).

UT, as expected, came out of this much better than they did going in to it. It could have been better for them, but not by much.

Weeks after they leak that they were joining the PAC 1X.

UT drove the entire PAC 1X deal.

TAMU's rejection ruined the entire package.

It seems like TAMU is the one that looks foolish.

They were all but gone to SEC to step out of Texas' shadow, now they're staying, and the Big 12 is now named Texas and friends.

Still not sure how TAMU served any ownage to Texas, I'm gonna need more valid reasons Cebbs

A&M gone to the SEC to be a mediocre team in the SEC West and immediately be behind Alabama, LSU, Florida, UGA, Ole Miss, and Auburn in the overall SEC scheme of things. They'd be about even with South Carolina and Kentucky. But in the Big XII? They're only behind Texas and OU while being about even with Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

                            Foolish indeed.

I don't see how they look foolish at all. They played the expansion game into a pretty sweet deal as a matter of fact, and whether they went to the SEC or stayed in the B1+9 with their new deal, they came out better.

I can say that most people in Texas that Ive talked to are happy the Big 12 are staying together. As a fans standpoint their werent alot of people wanting to play in the Pac-10.
