Offsides in NHL11
Does anyone know if there is going to be a drag button this year? I hate being on a 2 on 1 or 2 on none rush, then have to let up at the blue line to avoid an offsides. That can all but take you out of a play. My suggestion would be to make that one of the uses for vison control. As long as you're holding down L2 as your guy crosses the blueline before the puck crosses it he will drag his skate and try and hold the blueline as long as possible. Or they could just remove offsides from the game completely in OTP, this of coarse coming from a forwards point of view lol.Last edited by GreenReign86; 06-15-2010, 07:14 PM.Tags: None -
Re: Offsides in NHL11
I doubt this will be in the game for a while, unless the community cries for it more. It would be awesome, but not entirely necessary. It's pretty easy to just skate laterally for a quick second to let the puck carrier cross first. That's what I usually do and rarely go offsides because of it. But still, like you mentioned, it would definitely be a welcome addition. -

The more talented OTP players can time it very well. It's a huge advantage for their team.http://dropthepuck.blogspot.com/

Re: Offsides in NHL11
I hardly ever go offside my self. However, sometimes I'll get kind of ancy and mis time it wrong and be like a step offside. What I like to do is try and time it so I cross the line as the puck does, by slowing up by a step or two. I also hate, and I mean hate people that do double moves, dekes, fake outs ect, at the blue line that throws off your timing soooooo much. I'll say about 90% of all of my offsides have been when someone does a move at the blueline. My offsides rate is only 0.47 per game so I can live with that. But still this idea would not be that hard to implement, and they already have a button for it (Vison Control).Comment

Re: Offsides in NHL11
the most annoying thing is when a player on your team gets "pushed" offside.. but I guess it's not a big deal it does happen in real life but not that often.Pittsburgh - 2009 City of Champions! YES WE DID!Comment

Re: Offsides in NHL11
there's no reason EA could not add the drag feature, it's a very good idea. anything that adds more skill to the game is a win!
also, the physics should address being 'pushed' offside (ea: players should be aware they are being pushed offside and avoid it!)Comment

Re: Offsides in NHL11
Gotta give credit to a GREAT idea.. It would prove to be mighty useful.
Like everyone else I rarely go offsides either, but I think the drag would still open up things for rushes. We dont go offside because we alter our strides and that shouldnt be.
Another bonus I could see is it helping the dump and chase... How many times have you pulled up or skated laterally to wait for a teammate, only to have him dump it. If you were able to drag your foot, you could just stop dragging it on the dump and get back into stride faster. My claim to fame? I started the most popular thread of all time on OS:

Re: Offsides in NHL11
True, but show me an NHL game where the guys don't straddle the line at some point during the contest ...
It shouldn't be a button either, but an automatic drag or extension based on awareness.
It's just another authentic addition that you'd see during any game.Comment

Re: Offsides in NHL11
you already can do this. you hit left trigger and your player straddles the line. you can glide and time your rush with the puck carrier. No problems with this IMO. There could be an animation where if its close the player would stretch out his leg to try to stay on if it was close, but eh. works well enough. And have it completely off in OTP, what so you can cherry pick the whole game?Comment

Re: Offsides in NHL11
Oh I agree. I dont think we want that aspect removed from the game.. we just want more options... I would welcome the added complexity of deciding whether I want to toe drag and maintain my line, or straddle it by either stopping or altering my route.
Ehh I would take this over nothing, but I think a button press is still the way to go... Think about it..
You hold LT to tell your player to "foot drag" but he only does it if needed (kind of a cross between auto and manual), when you dont want to do it or decide that maybe just skating laterally and jumping back into the play is a better option, you can still do that by not pressing the button...
Heck, someone could make the argument that it could be set up to stop you all together at the line... If you are holding LT, your player wont bring his 2nd skate over... I am not fully behind this one, but I know it would be helpful in games like I play (4vsCPU).
What I dont think people are getting about this is that a change like this will allow for some people to really be a lot more aggressive... It's not gonna matter one bit to some people, but it could DRASTICALLY change someone else's whole offensive approach.
Just wish it was in the game and we werent just playing Devils Advocate. My claim to fame? I started the most popular thread of all time on OS:
