    OS Running Thread

Not sure how many people run on OS but I decided to make a thread and see the interest it sparks.

I guess we can talk about whatever, any races you have done, running shoes, or just running for fun.

For the past 6 months I have started to run for fun for exercise. Eventually I decided to run a half marathon with my cousins (Who have run the Chicago Marathon quite a few times) and I finished in 1:55:19 with a 8:48 pace.

I am not extremely fast as you can see by the time but I think I am hooked on running after the race last weekend. Right now I am looking for a way to get into the Chicago Marathon through a charity.

    Re: OS Running Thread

I'm going to start running again this week. Knoxville has a lot of great places to go for a run. There's a place right here near the station where I may go for a run after the game tonight.

      Re: OS Running Thread

I've fallen out of the habit running after I was doing it fairly routinely a few months ago. I'm going to be picking it up next week (hopefully). My plan is to run about a mile from home to Mark Light Stadium, do stadium steps there, and then run back every afternoon. In the Miami summer heat, it should be great conditioning.

As far as races, I've run a couple 5k's for fun... nothing to write home about. Best time was like 22 minutes, so not particularly fast.

Good deal, we have some interest! haha

I think apart from being in shape the best part of running for me is it being a huge stress reliever. Plus you can think about a lot of things when you are going for a long run haha.

What kind of shoes do you guys run with?

I run with Saucony's. They're light and fit very well. Plus they're the most durable in my experience.

I've got a pair of Basics. They feel pretty good, I got 'em around a year ago. Or sometimes if I misplace those, I'll just run in my Wades

I have never even heard of those shoe companies, I have a 2 pairs of Asics shoes. I was actually having a terrible time with blisters on the bottom of my foot until I went to the doctor to get inserts in my shoes.

Haha, my mistake, I meant Asics... That little "a" symbol they put in front of the word "asics" always makes me want to call them "basics"... I guess you can tell I'm not a seasoned runner

                  Re: OS Running Thread

I try to go for a run anytime I dont have something scheduled during the day as far as physical activity goes. I usually work out or play basketball during the week, but I managed to go for a run on Monday. For me it's a great way to de-stress and clear my mind, while at the same time thinking of a bunch of stuff. That makes no sense but it's hard to explain.

I'm not particularly fast or elogant in running, but I have definitly built my stamina up. I think that considering how much most people hate cardio or jogging the fact that I can run a few miles without dying is pretty good. I usually just jog around my town for a few miles and finish it off with a big sprint up this steep hill that leads to my house. It's a killer way to finish off a run.

As for shoes, I use pretty crappy New Balance's that a few years old.

Yeah, I try to run between 15-20k three times a week, but being exam season I haven't gone for about a week. I run around a 1:30-1:35 half marathon, so a just over six minute kilometre.

                        I too, run in Asics.

Also, cross training is a very useful training methods. Doing things like swimming and biking are very benifical.

I try to run once or twice per week. I only go around 2 miles total and take a 2 minute break in between to walk and settle my heart rate. I'm learning how important it is to improve my breathing and overall cardiovascular health. It's a welcomed balance to weight lifting.

Thought I would get this thread going again since I am sure we will have some new runners with 2011 just starting!

I did the Marathon in October and this year I am going to skip it, mainly because it is difficult to train for a marathon, be at school, and have a job.

I just signed up for 3 half marathons (2 in May, 1 in June) And if things work out I will sign up for another half marathon in March, and a 10k in May. I am also hoping to find one half marathon in either July or August.
