Re: NCAA Football 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Well I had high hopes for this game but each game I play with the demo the more that hope fades.
I started out playing the game on varsity and perhaps that's the level that makes the game a bit more fun. I switched to AA a few days ago and my frustration continues to grow.
Here's a few of my complaints.
No true gang tackles. When the ball carrier is being tackled or slowed up by a defender you want to come in a level a huge hit to clean out everyone. But your player can't! He bounces off the "animation" and cannot contribute to the action taking place. If the ball carrier escapes your tacklers grasp he gains extra yards as your other players are slow to react.
Blitzing seldom works. Rarely do you ever get much heat on the QB. Sending extra attackers only leaves your secondary vulnerable to being burned. Even when it's a run play your LB's and D line seem unable to get penetration and blow up the play.
There are so many defensive plays to choose from but you end up only a few base defense plays, why? Because the more exotic looking schemes don't work worth a ****!! I don't feel you should have to make 5 different positional moves trying to screw with the AI so that you can get heat. The plays should work as they are drawn up.
I don't know why the cpu's blockers on a punt play seem to give their return man room to run with the ball, my guys never make good blocks and they (my blockers) seem to be right on top of me when I receive the ball.
Nothing seems any different from past years. Yes they have made some nicer looking animations but the gameplay aspects are still the same.
The game will be a rental for me.Comment

tried running nothing but vertical routes. 1 for 14 in a game with Florida vs Florida St.
--------
The running game still impresses me each time I play the game. I'm loving the blocking and how rewarding it feels to follow blockers, find a hole, "get skinny", and take off for a long run.
Eager for this game to drop.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Demo just froze 4 straight times for me. I hope my 360 isn't dying. Again."We must view with profound respect the infinite capacity of the human mind to resist the introduction of useful knowledge." - Thomas Raynesford Lounsbury (American scholar and educator, 1838-1915)Comment

Re: NCAA Football 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Some of these teams have players that are rated extremely high, and there is no difference on some of the AI issues, so I am doubtful that this is the case. Also, these issues are the same across skill levels (All American and Heisman), which makes me doubtful that simply making defenders smarter (which already happens to some extent when you put the game on Heisman) is going to solve any issues here.Wouldn't that be a player awareness factor also rhombic?
You said the AI doesn't know how to cover and where to cover but what if you you had 4 DB's and 3 LB's with all 90+ awareness in Zone Coverage and Play Recognition you know those ratings in the game that no one seems to ever look at because they don't even know they are there.....do you think they would react smarter with those types of ratings
Is that something you've tested to find out for yourself rhombic?
I think you should waite for the final product before making this conclusion everything will be broken.......
The short zone issues happen regardless, even if the player has 100 Awareness, because the game has the drop zones coded incorrectly.
Further, if you have to give every single defender a 90+ Awareness rating to get decent AI (and I don't concede that it would be decent), then doesn't awareness as a rating become irrelevant in the sense of differentiating between players? So if you do that, then you basically turn every defense into the same team, more or less. So now what separates teams like OU and Texas from Missouri and Clemson, in terms of team defense? Very little.
And what do you do when these super aware players are reacting unrealistically well to situations that are not impacted by these particular AI problems? Imagine a game where defenders virtually never bite on play action, or where misdirection plays never work. Wouldn't that game be just as broken as the current version of the demo?
Finally, even though EA has this tuner thing, it's highly unlikely that they are going to implement such a drastic "fix" for online play, which makes any attribute editing pointless for those people who are like me and don't primarily play offline against the computer, but instead play online.
I am very certain that this will require a patch -- probably a massive one at that. And until I see hard evidence that EA has successfully implemented such a patch, then I see no reason to think that the final product will be that much better than the demo. Past history suggests that any changes between the demo and final code will be minimal, and that subsequent gameplay patches will also tend to be minimal and fail to address major AI issues. There's no reason to think that things will be different this time.Last edited by rhombic21; 06-18-2010, 08:03 PM.Comment

i've played 2 games of the demo, and so far i'm having more fun with this game than i've had in years of video game football. the animations, tackles, graphics, and overall game play are simply superb, imo.My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10
3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.Comment

Re: NCAA Football 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
i searched in this thread but couldn't find anything about it, i was lined up to kick the game winning FG with 4 seconds left, the CPU calls time out to ice me, so i line up again, they call time out again. I noticed this happened in last years game, the CPU would burn all of their time outs right in a row in this situation. Anyone else notice this? it gets annoying especially if they have all 3 time outs left.Comment

I wonder if the players will take off their helemets in real version. It seems weird to see the players sitting on the bench or in post game celebrations with their helmet still on."Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser."-Vince Lombardi

Nope, it's not just you. Though I get the logic of freezing the kicker, the scenario plays out rather strangei searched in this thread but couldn't find anything about it, i was lined up to kick the game winning FG with 4 seconds left, the CPU calls time out to ice me, so i line up again, they call time out again. Re: NCAA Football 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Played about half a dozen games on the demo this week. Idk, the game was just ok to me. I really wasn't feeling the locomotion all that much, if anything I felt it was worse than Madden 10. With the improved blocking I was averaging about 8-10 yards a carry on AA. On defense, the cpu was killing me as well. I don't think I saw a punt in any game.
Presentation was really good. One thing I didn't like tho was the cut scenes of the fans. When I used Clemson, alot of the fans were wearing red #11 shirts. Come on EA, I know some of that was taken from Madden 10 but could you at least change the jersey number from Fitz's...or at least put them in Clemson orange?
Overall, I probably won't be getting the game. I can't figure out exactly what it was missing, it's better than either of last years titles, but I still just wasn't feeling it.Comment

Re: NCAA Football 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
After playing many more games in the demo tonight, I'm incredibly excited to get this game already. One of the most exciting parts for me is that I'm enjoying playing defense again! No more super-sim'ing defense all the time. I couldn't stop playing with Clemson tonight simply because of their LE. What a beast!
Also, there are so many little touches that are awesome. And to me, the game feels much better than '10 did (the addition of locomotion makes such a huge difference here). Overall, I simply can't wait until this game comes out. It couldn't be soon enough!Comment
