NBA 2K11 Eyes-On Impressions: Looks Are Everything - For Now (Kotaku)

Kotaku has posted their eyes on impressions of NBA 2K11.

"When you see it and you do it, it just feels natural," said producer Rob Jones. "There's more gesturing, and less of straight commands."

Jones was pretty direct that the game had not "scrapped" iso-motion, but did acknowledge that player control was going to behave in a different way. They just didn't say how. Jones did say the right analog will remain the game's Shot Stick, a control introduced way back in NBA 2K6. That does not necessarily exclude putting dribble controls on the right analog, as we see in NBA Elite. 2K will be very sensitive to insinuations it's mimicking that control set, especially considering the return of Mike Wang, who spent a year up in Canada working on NBA Live.

Aspirationally, they want to go for a total-body-control system that NBA Elite also is implementing. Jones explained it to me with an example: Moving across the lane on the run, parallel to the baseline, if you push up a shot, what would you expect to see in real life? A runner, with the shooter's arm out 90 degrees from his body. In NBA 2K10, he'd stop on a dime and pop the shot or, if he was close enough, move into an unnatural layup animation."

Thanks King. The most informative preview thus far imo.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

The arena interiors were redone for deeper authenticity.
I hope this means that the AT&T Center and Verizon Center have both been updated/improved.

                    Re: New preview

The more intuitive shot stick is quite encouraging. Because it felt very weird in the last game to do a runner or a leaner. I hope they've changed that. If I hit a face button while holding the stick in a direction, that's where the shot should float. Gotta conserve momentum.

Nice Find.....I kinda respect 2k's approach of not letting out too much information at once..it seems mature....i can't wait to see gameplay videos tho

i hope they put the trophy patch on jersey doing nba finals. and make the fans more hyped come playoff time. and on assocation mode if a team doesn't have a good record make the seats empty, what im saying is every single game doesn't be sold out in real life basketball. when two good teams play then have a sell out arena. because the fans were annoying during the season and playoffs. because it was unrealistic it's like they didn't know when to cheer sometime. and 1more thing if the game is a blow out please show the fans leaving the game instead of just sitting there like their team are going to come back and win, thanks 2k im looking forward to this.

Iso-motion not scrapped. Hmm. The intrigue rises yet interest loses a bit of steam. I think 2K is scrambling to try to come up with their own control scheme and not look so much like they're copying Elite's; sorta like finding some type of middle ground between the two. Whatever the case, I think Iso SHOULD GO completely.

Can I ask you why you feel 2k is scrambling as if they arent capable of having their own plan?
