Season Showdown was in last year's game. For those that don't remember, it's basically a competition between all the fans of the various schools in the game. In game, you get points for your school (you pick who you want to play for) for doing good things such as anything done by the user (tackles, INTs, sacks, etc.), which would be skill, you get points for calling a play that correctly counters their play (not sure how they will score this) and points for showing sportsmanship (kicking on 4th down, not running up the score, etc.). I assume the pop up is just showing in game what you are getting points for.
