IF.....
if backbreaker could somehow get the nfl liscence of maybe not maybe jus make it easy to customize a schedule and uniforms and players and all things like that AND then make the players look realistic, fine tune some things, and then have a franchise mode with a "super bowl" and stuff.. i think it would be THE best game EVER CREATED.Eagles | Phillies | Sixers | Flyers

Re: IF.....
Those are a lot of IFS..it would be easier for Madden to get physics based tackling and animations then it would be for BB to get a franchise mode, mutliple player models etc.if backbreaker could somehow get the nfl liscence of maybe not maybe jus make it easy to customize a schedule and uniforms and players and all things like that AND then make the players look realistic, fine tune some things, and then have a franchise mode with a "super bowl" and stuff.. i think it would be THE best game EVER CREATED. -
Re: IF.....
You think its easier for Madden to add physics based tackling than for Bacbkreaker 2 to add multiple models and a franchise?
If its so easy then what took em?Comment

Re: IF.....
I hope for the best from BB2 (if it actually makes it to market), but BB needs alot more than an NFL license. Frankly, I don't give a crap about NFL license. A few years into franchise, there are new stars in the league anyway. For me, fix the camera, the passing, and add some real meat to the bare bones franchise mode, and ya got something going on.Comment

Re: IF.....
If it wasn't exclusive, the NFL would want to give the license to as many takers as possible to make the most money. Natural Motion would just work out a deal that involved the NFL getting a certain amount from each copy sold.Comment

Re: IF.....
Acquiring a NFL license in a non-exclusive environment would probably cost several if not 10s of millions of dollars before royalties, reflecting the value of the video game market.
They're not going to give me access to the NFL to make an XBLA game in my free time. A game bombing is not in their best interest, so it would be cost prohibitive for anyone who isn't empowered to make their game a success from being involved. Letting whomever take a shot at making a game with the intellectual property dilutes it's value. Requiring a significant investment for the license ensures some amount of payoff for the risk, in the event the title is not completed or does poorly.
At a glance many of their licenses are flat payments. Reebok isn't handing over a cut of jersey sales, and Bud Light likely isn't giving up a nickle for every can sold. Instead they're likely just expensive contracts with clauses for required levels of marketing and promotion.
As a result, I think NM should focus on making the best BB the best football game it can be, and not worry about the license stuff, and hope they don't get sued by the NFL for allowing people to recreate their IP in their games.Comment

Before exclusivity the NFL gave their license to just about anyone who asked. NFL Fever, NFL QB club, ESPN 2k, Madden, Midway, Backyard football all had access to the NFL with the worry of diluting the value of the license.Acquiring a NFL license in a non-exclusive environment would probably cost several if not 10s of millions of dollars before royalties, reflecting the value of the video game market.

Backbreaker has actually already outsold pretty much any one year edition of NFL Fever,NFL qb club or Backyard football without an NFL license according to VGchartz. If the NFL was willing to give those games a license for several years with lackluster sales, why not BB?
Your reebok example doesn't work either. It's an exclusive license at the moment.
Edit: I missed a decimal point. BB has not outsold these games. It doesnt make these games anymore successful or mean BB couldn't sell at their level with a license tho.Last edited by kjcheezhead; 07-09-2010, 11:34 PM.Comment

Re: IF.....
Those were all produced by companies with far more resources than NM. You're kidding yourself if you think the NFL just gives the license away.
Actually it does make those games more successful than BB.Comment

Re: IF.....
I didn't say the NFL gave it away for nothing, I said they did agreements that gave them x amount of money for each game sold. Just like when your go to a bank, if you have good credit you get a good rate, those with bad credit have to pay more.
It means games that have a license are more successful than games that don't, that's all. Backbreaker would be stupid not to try and get a license if it was available. No football game has even come close to being successful without one.Comment

Re: IF.....
You still need cash up front. And a good amount of it. I seriously doubt NM has the resources, or given their games performance from a sales standpoint, that it would be a good risk for them.Last edited by bkrich83; 07-11-2010, 12:48 AM.Comment

Re: IF.....
When the economy turns over the consumer usually catches the cost. Look at CH 2k. College Hoops 2k8 was a great game and the NCAA was still asking for more than Take Two wanted to spend. Before exclusivity the NFL gave their license to just about anyone who asked. NFL Fever, NFL QB club, ESPN 2k, Madden, Midway, Backyard football all had access to the NFL with the worry of diluting the value of the license.
