As far as the computer AI knowing if you are running or passing, my question would be "How do you know they picked a good defense for the run or pass?"

You have to factor in a lot of things first off. Are your tendencies out of the shotgun tipping your hand? Are you doing certain things on specific down and distances? Do you have a pattern of play calling that the AI is picking up on?

Even if, there are still pass plays that are good for man coverage vs. zone coverage. And there are good plays versus the blitz regardless of zone or man.

I understand what you're saying that the CPU will come out in a 4-3 sometimes, but I do that as well if I see a team likes to run on first down or in a specific situation(regardless of formation).

You're spreading it out so you can run and the CPU is on to that.

I suggest you practice recognizing coverages and blitzes and spend some time setting up audibles to defeat each kind.

Great question and topic.
I understand that you have to mix play calling but in real life if I had 4 wides no defense would match up with 3 linebackers on the field! They would maybe bring the safety up to the line of scrimmage but never would they match linebackers with slot receivers.
