You know, there are at least two WR routes I know of where the DB isn't running the route ahead of the WR.
First one is corners, where the WR takes a couple steps in toward the middle, cuts straight up field, then goes maybe 10 yards and cuts back toward the sideline. On the second cut he usually gets a bit of separation.
Second one is the flag route. It's like a fade I guess. I dunno, it starts like a post route (10 yard straight then slant toward the middle) but then the WR make a 90 degree cut toward the sideline.
The key is, throw is just before your WR cuts and it will get to him just after he cuts, that is when the WR creates the maximum separation between himself and the CB.
