    8 undefeated teams/1 National Championship

So here's the deal through 10 weeks of my dynasty...There are 8 undefeated teams

    Ohio St - #1
    Boise St - #2
    Texas - #3
    Washington - #4
    TCU - #5
    Georgia Tech - #6
    West Virginia - #7
    Nevada - #8

Notice that they're all in different conferences ( I don't know/care about Nevada) and they will not play each other. What happens next, assuming they all go undefeated? And let me make it clear that I do NOT support a playoff system.

Well if the rankings stay as they are then presumably Ohio State would play BSU for the NC. In real life they'd be all sorts of madness with people calling for playoffs all over the place, but the outcome would probably be the same, although the NC would most likely be OSU - Texas in real life.

The same as every year....? They choose the teams based off of a computer ranking, and the teams that don't get into the NC game go to the other bowl games based on what conference they reside in, or at large bids.

But if Texas wins the BigXII championship, they'll have one more win, possibly against a ranked team (Nebraska). Think they'll jump Boise St.?

I'm somewhat in the same boat as the OP. Although I'm not exactly against a playoff system, I love the BCS. It adds a whole new level of excitement to the game. Gets fans really into the value of their wins and losses. Is it imperfect? Yes. Does it spark some of the best College Football Live/Gameday discussions ever? Yes. Sitting down and saying this, this, and this can happen as long as this, this, and this happen, in terms of who beats who and where they rank is fun stuff.

Back on topic though... I'd be very amused to see that ever happen again. Makes for an exciting bowl season.

Yeah, who wants to see the best team in the nation actually play in the NC?

What, you don't think seeing teams get shafted year in and year out is exciting?

I'm against a playoff unless college football adds an elite division with promotion and relegation. Otherwise we're still stuck with picking wildcards with computers or letting in cupcake conference champions in over elite teams in strong conferences.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

I did say the system was flawed. Yeah, every once-in-a-while someone gets snubbed when they deserve to be there. But thats where the excitement comes from.

Here's my personal favorite situation. 2006, Ohio State - Michigan, #1 - #2, played an EXCELLENT game. Many people called for the two teams to play again in the national championship. Not exactly fair but their rank, and the outcome of the game led people to believe they were the two best teams. Alas, voters wised up and Michigan never jumped Florida going into the final week.

Outcome? Florida smashed Ohio State in the NC game, USC walks all over Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and the Big 10 is put on the hot seat with people wondering where the conference prestige has gone. College football would be different today if the computers put Michigan in there, and we all know it. The BCS makes for an interesting bowl season with priceless headlines.

The elite division you speak of already exists, it is the only division that allows 85 scholarships and is known as the Bowl Subdivision of division 1.

There are 630 some schools that field college football programs. Most of them are trying to qualify for one of the three NCAA football championship tournament fields.

Division 1 - 20 teams (124 total schools in the Championship Subdivision)
                          Division 2 - 24 teams (152 schools)
                          Division 3 - 32 teams (238 schools)

These tournaments function and provide a more interesting post-season in my opinion.

At the end of my first season, Nevada was #2. The Top four were:
                            #1 Ohio State 12-0
                            #2 Nevada 12-0
                            #3 Wisconsin 11-1
                            #4 Alabama 12-1

I wasn't sure who would play for the National Championship. It wound up being Ohio State versus Alabama, OSU won.

My online dynasty mates and myself noticed that there was a distinct advantage to have a conference championship game against a likely highly rated opponent at the end of the season to catapult up the polls.
