Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?
Alex Smith with the proviso that San Fran continues to run the offense they ran in the 2nd half of the year. Early last year they went with a very antiquated late '70s "we're gonna pound the rock" offense that didn't fit Smith's skill set at all. If they keep the offense dynamic then I see him having a better season then Leinart though I don't think Leinart will do as bad as everyone thinks he will.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?
Alex Smith reason: san fran had only 1 solid lineman last year and 2 decent ones, they added 2 good ones in the 1st round and that will allow them to run the ball better which should open up the pass aand make it easier on alex.
Lienart has had 3 chances that he has failed at even with boldin and fitz. If he cant do it with those 2 what makes anyone think he can ever do it.Comment

Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?
This is a good question.
I'll say Alex Smith has the better season because of how San Fran has built their team, along with their nice offseason this year and because I think San Francisco is the better team than Arizona this year, so I think Smith will succeed more than Leinart does. Also the targets he has to throw to are much improved from years past. Crabtree will have a full training camp under his belt and I don't see Vernon Davis falling off.
I do think people are underestimating Leinart though, or maybe I'm overestimating him, but I don't see how he couldn't at least somewhat succeed with the type of offense Arizona runs, having 2 solid RBs with Beanie and Hightower and being able to throw anything up to Fitz and know he'll more than often come down with the ball.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. I'd guess Smith, but maybe Lienart has picked up something from Warner after being on the bench these last few years.Comment

Alex Smith. His team is prime to be very good on both sides of the ball. I'm picking San Fran to win the west. Not to mention the full year of exp. last year. You looking at the Chair MAN!

Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?
This is my feeling as well. If you look at the game against the Titans last year I thought Leinart made some real strides. They might have to pull back on some of the more exotic plays but I think with the talent around him Leinart should have a pretty decent season. I think those who are poo pooing him are putting too much emphasis on his earlier stint as a starter before Warner came to town.I do think people are underestimating Leinart though, or maybe I'm overestimating him, but I don't see how he couldn't at least somewhat succeed with the type of offense Arizona runs, having 2 solid RBs with Beanie and Hightower and being able to throw anything up to Fitz and know he'll more than often come down with the ball.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?
I have no faith in Alex Smith. Vernon davis and Crabtree made him look better than he was. Will he do better than last year? Well, why wouldn't he? Finally having two years with the same head coach and offensive co-oridinator, an improved offensive line, and that the team understands they needot run him under shotgun most of the time will all be in his favor. Will he do better than matt? Again, why wouldn't he. I never asked how hard Alex worked, I just don't think he has the talent to be a good NFL QB. He doesn't make his team better, his team makes him better. Matt, on the other hand, has had a poor work ethic in the NFL and hasn't shown much growth [he has shown some, but not much.] Arizona won't be a joke this year, but they will be a shadow of their former selves. Arizona was a one trick pony. Think of the Chiefs of a few years ago with Trent Green. I see Arizona following a similar down hill march as the Chiefs, the Rams, and the Vikings of the mid 2000's.
SF isn't going to win the west becasue they are a great team, they are going to win the west becasue the west is terrible. I don't know if they are going to win all 6 of their divisional games, but they should. After that, i order to have a winning season, they are asked to win 3 of 10 games. That isn't impossible. may people are even thinkign the 49ers will go 10-6. Outside of the division, that is only asking for a 4-6 record. With the Chiefs, Raiders, and Buccs on our schedual, I don't see why we can't win at least go 9-7.
With how well SF played agaisnt the Vikings and the colts last year there is hope. to be fair though, while we played those games well, we were smoked like a Christmass Ham by the falcons, and could only put 10 points up against the Bears after they turned the ball over 5 times. I want to go to the MNF game agaisnt the Saints... though I think it is going to be a slaughter.Comment

Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?
I'd say that Alex Smith is going to have a better season based off of having more NFL regular season snaps than Leinart. Plus Leinart really hasn't shown me anything spectacular to date, where as Smith has had a few moments and if he can stay in a sustained system for a long time he might be a Pro Bowler one year. I can't honestly say the same about LeinartPhiladelphia Eagles

Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?
The main issue is that the Cardinals don't run the ball very well (ranked 28th last season). When you have a QB who already isn't that good to begin with and you can't run, now you're relying on that guy to get it done. Unless Leinart miraculously "gets it", the Cardinals are doomed. Even worse, their backup Derek Anderson is no good either.
The Cardinals are in a lot of trouble. The 49ers didn't run that well last year either, but I have more faith in their ability to bounce back there, as the Cardinals haven't done well running the ball in a long, long time.Comment
