    player switching

does anybody have problems with this? you would think it would automatically switch to the defender that's closest or the defender with the best chance to make the play. but i have been switched to random players consistently that are probably the third closest or so with no chance to get the tackle. Is this happening to only me?

also im fine with the switching before the play. and just to make sure, im talking about defense. i play on all american with a fast speed and customized sliders

I thought it was just me. I too have been having some issues with it.

I think they must have snuck a change in to where you get switched to the player with the best chance to make the play instead of just the closer player.

Because sometimes the cpu throws a pass to a guy on an out and instead of giving me the closest guy, I get the safety down the field who is in best position to make sure that the guy doesn't get behind me.. but it doesnt help because we have all been trained like dogs that pressing circle or B will give us the closest guy to the ball carrier. So I press the button assuming that I will get the closest guy and instead I run off into the woods with my safety.

Similarly on a toss play by the CPU I was given the middle line backer who was running down the line of scrimmage to make the play, INSTEAD of the D End that was closer, but had been blocked out of the play. That worked out great.

So sometimes it works, sometimes it throws you way off.

I agree 100%. Sometimes I try to get a hit stick in by switching to the closet player, but they change me into the free safety. I swing and miss and they get a long run. I'm finding myself not switching as much in fear of taking my players out of the play.

Back in the old days, they used to say that switching players would take you to the next highest-rated player and would specifically say "not necessarily the closest" and then Kirk would say something cheesy about not being able to switch and dive until the play was made. Maybe they finally got that part working?

I normally use player lock to prevent me from switching defenders and pulling the CPU guy off his man. I've been burned so many times with that it's not even funny.

Funny you should mention it. I've noticed in the last two years that football games, Madden & NCAA, are less intelligent about switching than they used to be in the past. It seems like it used to put me into situations to make a play, but literally, sometimes switches me to the most random guy when others have a play on the ball... it's weird. I thought it was just me, like I was going nuts, but I swear it used to work better.
