Re: NHL 11 Video: Disallowed Goal, Is it a Goal or Not?
My thoughts exactly. It's not a gamebreaker, just a little bit of a letdown but I'm sure they'll have the physics and hits perfected in the next iteration. If you watch Kessel as he falls, his head and shoulders hit the guy who ends up taking the shot on net, but neither of them really react to it.
He just kind of moves off his path a bit, but doesn't "react" with an animation of any kind.
Not that it matters a whole lot, just a minor issue.
I just hope that if you lay a big hit on someone, and they go into another player, you don't just have some guy falling and people sliding out of the way with a skating animation.
Also to people wondering if the play is dead, if the goal light goes on the play is automatically dead right?Pittsburgh - 2009 City of Champions! YES WE DID!Comment

Not necessarily. Like my example with the puck hitting the post and bouncing out of the net, there's been times when the light went on and play continued. After a few minutes of play, the puck was finally frozen. The play was reviewed and determined that the goal judge was right in turning the light on, as the puck hitting the post (which was very audible during play in real-time) was actually the rear cross-bar in the back of the net. It ricocheted off that and back out the other side of the net, it just happened so quickly that everyone thought the puck hit the front cross-bar and didn't go into the net. The ref was immediately giving the "No-Goal" motion on that play, but because the puck came out so quick, everyone believed it was off the post and the goal judge had jumped the gun.Comment

Red light doesn't kill the play, only the whistle.
If goal reviews are limited to high sticks and kick ins, then the play will always be dead, which is all we've had confirmed at this point. The only situation that would continue is if the ref thinks the puck didn't go in, i'm not sure if those type of goal/no goal situations are going to be in the game.Comment

yes. if the puck did in fact go in then that was just terrible puck physics. theres been a problem with that part of the net in nhl since 09 so i think it could have gone inwill not change this until a buffalo team wins a championship.

Agree, if you look on the orange crosshair following the puck it seems that (at least) most part of the puck is inside the goal line.
The whole puck muts be inside the line for it to be goal, but as you mentioned, if the puck was batted from that position, ended up just inside the post, then it seems wierd to have bounce out of the goal.
Seen that in 09 an 10 as well...
Thank you EA - This game is officially better than sexComment
