HOW, specifically, do you enjoy NCAA?

    hello.

i find myself bored, after awhile, with the recruiting - even though it has more depth now than in past years - but in a few "years" time, i no longer really recognize my team - it becomes a "fantasy" roster that is too mythical for me...

does anyone else get a bit bored by the "future" teams in career mode?

that said, what do you do to avoid this burnout? simply play another season with the default teams? play a ton online? or does online dynasty (which i admit i haven't tinkered much with) keep it fresh...

just looking for some thoughts about HOW you guys enjoy the game...

I actually was just thinking about this. I am doing a dynasty with Michigan, and am in year four. I still have some of the guys that I started with, that are real guys. And I was wondering, once they're all gone, and all I have is recruits that the game has generated for me, will it still be fun, or weird, since all the players will be fictional.

I guess I can't answer your question yet, but I have wondered some of the same thoughts you are saying.

I create recruits that I can "connect" with. I pick a couple guys that I really like and use them a lot. That always helps me out. It's a lot harder now that I'm a little older. I think the fact that I've played it for almost 10 years makes it a little more difficult, plus my imagination isn't where it used to be.

The same thing happens when I play HC09. After a few seasons, your players come and go, and all that's left is a fantasy team with no emotional connection to reality.

The solution: Break things up. Play a few years of dynasty, try RTG, and by that time, Madden or NHL will be around to help with the blues.

Other than that, as a relative dynasty rookie, I'm really digging the mode, and pounding these forums for more info. Buying into the fun is easy when it's fresh. But after a while, since I don't play online, I'm sure things will get stale. But mid September sees NHL 11 hit the shelves, and my 360.

i think that the team you like to play with matters alot, as well...

i LOVED recruiting like 5-6 year ago, when Rutgers (my team) was awful, so anytime i would get a good recruit it was a HUGE deal...

and when i cracked the top 25 for the first time - amazing... and the first bowl, so exciting...

now, Rutgers is a mid-pack team, and the recruiting seems to just disperse good players around to all the teams...

and to get back to my original post - it doesn't seem as fun because i am not really "rutgers" after that first season...

maybe i will play around with schedules, or try to play a different team that i have some familiarity with (Temple, Army, Syracuse) - but i still don't think the connection will be the same...

still just wondering what others do and/or think...

That's how I am. I always find some recruits that just stick out to me and I like to see how their career goes. Always been that way in every game I play.

I agree. There are players that you recruit that become a part of your team. However, I usually only play single seasons with one team so I can try different teams in different conferences....

                All good points...

I played online dynasty so much in the past 2 years, with just my cousin and close friend, and I will never be able to play single player dynasty again. Online dynasty is GREAT when its 2 close friends, or sometimes 3, anymore then that IMO gets out of control. Plus, a good thing to do is Advance Week every night at 12 Midnight, games played or not. That's mainly how I enjoy it, but the thing with the new recruits kinda gets to weird for me. Which is why i prefer Madden, and importing draft classes.

I feel exactly the opposite. The game becomes much more enjoyable once all the "real" players are gone and the all the players are players that I have recruited myself. The whole of the college football universe becomes an unknown landscape.

I don't have any preconceived notion about how any players should play. They are who they are, and I get to discover each players strengths and weaknesses through their play on the field without analyzing a player and saying, player A shouldn't drop that many passes, or player B should be better in man to man coverage.

I'm always more connect to the fictitious players in sports games, because there is no specter of a real life player hanging over their performance.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Re: HOW, specifically, do you enjoy NCAA?

What you need to do is become creative once the "new" has worn off. You do this especially with Teambuilder. Let your imagination run wild, see how many points you can win by with making everyone 99. Or create the ultimate challenge and make em all 50s.

                      Make a team of 7 foot 350 lb giants, or a 5'5 150, midgets.

Change up the conferences landscape, regionalize your conferences and see how much different things turn out. Take some of the big boys and make them independent.

I recently did a project, where I took every SEC team, and I flipped their school colors. I understand, things can get boring, but after the current players are gone, that is where the fun begins.

Since I didn't buy Madden 2010 last year, I did all the NFL teams in NCAA football, along with NBA teams, and MLB teams, didn't quite fill out the 120 roster slots, but you get the point. (yes I was that bored, I am married, with no kids, so I can).

The game, is what you make it, if you let it bore you, it will. If you step outside the box, there is a whole new world of NCAA football out there waiting on you.

Sidenote: It is really fun watching a team of midgets, stomp on some big uglie 7 foot fat men.

I'm the same way. Somewhere between years 3-5 is where the real fun begins for me. Part of the reason I usually enjoy NCAA more than Madden as it really becomes your team sooner.

i LOVE this out of the box thinking, never thought of it this way, thx.

I usually got the route of players i can associate with. I create anybody and everybody that i know that has half a interest in football, of somewhat of a football mentality. Whether it friends, family, etc., based on past Ncaa performances, and real life personalities it gives me expectations and keeps it fairly interesting

But the idea above will extend my enjoyment, and its more of a plus if I decide to buy Madden later, gives me incentives to see how my 20-30 or so players I've played with/against turn out during the NFL stage, you know when 3rd/4th rounders turned 3 time Pro Bowlers. It always gets more and more fun...more of a RPG aspect in the end i'd guess...
