Videos Showing Why Blocking FG's Is Nearly Impossible

I have not blocked a FG in NCAA since 07 when the jump the snap worked a little too well. Since then I have tried and tried and tried, yet nothing has worked. So after getting some great jumps this year and still failing, I looked into it a little bit and finally realized the problem. Suction blocking may be removed now in the passing and running game, but when it comes to special teams, its still there and its terrible.

You can get a good jump and get within diving distance of the kick, but usually a blocker will slide over to block you. Its the games way of limiting your success by a great percentage. I went into practice mode and tried at least 50 times to block a FG using multiple players and failed every single time except once or twice when I was clearly offsides. Below is some videos showing the game cheat. Each video is from a different play.

I will probably do some punt videos later to see where the problem is there.

I've blocked at least one each of the past few NCAA's, including this year already

Punts on the other hand are pretty much impossible.

I can't get the embeds to work. Does Photobucket not work well with OS?

I've blocked one XP and should've blocked two punts, but went spazzo on the controller as I got so close I missed it. Ha!

It can be done. Oh, and suction blocking does exist on kicks. No doubt.

i actually blocked one last year, and although i have yet to this year, it looks to me like this year, there's a better chance of blocking a kick.

i've been able to run right down the middle and squeak through on multiple occasions in '11.

They're uploaded to youtube. They'll need to process and the quality should get better as the day goes on. I think a few hours after they're uploaded they reach their full quality. I filmed them on a cell phone, so they won't be the best quality, but it should be pretty decent still.

My main post has the link to my channel that has all 8 videos.

I think punts and kicks should be blocked much more often in this game, and you shouldn't have to line up at the end and time the snap count right. Players should occasionally come right through the middle and block it. Blocks happen fairly often in college football, and they have never found a way to accurately put this in an ncaa game.

I was thinking of showing why punts are too, but right now I have blocked two punts in the first half of my dynasty game. Punts don't feel like they're impossible, you just need to time it right. FG's though, definitely are nearly impossible thanks to the suction.

Agreed. Some college teams/coaches have made a living off of blocked punts/FGs. Frank Beamer, anyone?

I'd like to see EA come up with some ways to represent that in NCAA 12.

How did you block that punt? It looks like you did it out of the punt return normal formation but the strategy you suggested to me involved using punt block. How did you come off the edge so quickly and why does it look like you are offsides? Did you substitute your fastest player in?

I actually just blocked an extra point in the BCS title game in the 3rd quarter as Nebraska vs Boise. Timed it perfectly off the end, it was awesome!

I think part of the problem with blocking punts and FG's is there is never, ever, ever a bad snap in the kicking game. It'd be hard to do, but bad snaps and bad holds do cause problems. Rugby style punting should be in the game also IMO as many teams are doing it.

The entire kicking game screams to be overhauled, but it will never happen because nobody else cares.

I did block it out of regular return which is strange. I have 3 on the season all from Return Middle. And it does look like I was offsides, but I promise you I was not on that one. The other you can see I wasn't, but they're two different returns. I have yet to get a FG, but at least I have 3 punts now.

Really NCAA 12 could do with a Virgina Tech redux. Get scrambling quarterbacks to scramble more and scramble first a la Mike Vick, before looking to pass. And include some Beamer Ball! Make it to where special teams, blocking FGs and punts really matter!
