Is Madden's Gameflow a Revolution or a Gimmick?

The question I keep asking myself is whether Gameflow and the Game Planning features are a revolution in Madden NFL 11 or just another gimmick which is sure to go by the wayside in future years not unlike Weapons, the Vision Cone, and any number of other features.

It's not like we haven't been given a bevy of reasons to believe Gameflow isn't indeed another gimmick.

Read the article man, I give my full answer in there.

cliff notes - Yes, but only because there's no reasoning behind it. The move towards more realistic play-calling is a welcome sight in my mind.

Gimmick.....for now anyway. Right now it is inconsistent and buggy. They don't pay attention to what down it is, how many yards you got to go for the 1st or where you are at on the field.

Several times I have seen them call out bizzare plays like a reverse when it is 3rd and 18 and I am on my own 10 yard line. Or call deep outs when it is 3rd and 1. And on defense it is even worse. They will call 2 DB blitz when the offense is in a 5 WR set.

It is as though the cpu can careless what plays you ranked as a priority, they going to call what they want to call.

I would call it evolutionary. EA will track it's use with the telemetry and their numbers will probably tell them it's being used a great deal by the majority (casual gamers) . I think we'll see it again next year, fleshed out further.

It certainly makes play calling quicker and so far most of the time the plays are right on.

Seems like a glorified Ask Madden to me.

Ask Madden/Corso isn't a bad thing, but it shouldn't be touted as this major breakthrough in gaming.

I think it's somewhere in the middle. It's an improved version of Ask Madden, but it's not revolutionary IMO. I think though that if they improve it over the next few years, it could be a good feature.

evolutionary (and WELCOMED) and the main reason I bought Madden this year.

I share your feelings about it being welcomed....having more realistic play calling is a good start. I think more can be done with the Coach/player relationships and strategery (don't you miss those words America?) that goes on between plays. The challenge for Ian and co will be to make that deep area accessible enough for casual users and deep enough to satisfy hardcore football fans.

I like the IDEA of it...But the implementation and execution is Gimmick(y).

I have turned it off after 1 game and find NO need to ever turn it back on...

Imagine if is WASNT an option but a requirement? That would suck bad....

while i like it, i think i agree with this...

it's just a very polished and newly presented "ask madden"

I agree in that this is the tip of the iceberg of what gameflow and planning can do. I believe in the coming years this can really and truly be an excellent revoluntionary feature in Madden gameplay.

Does it have to be either? It's not a gimmick, it's an interesting feature that will help some people and others won't use. But it's far from revolutionary.
