Re: Road to the Show 2010 discussions, impressions, and questions

    The Story of Alvaro Grullon #24 - 3rd Baseman / 2nd Baseman

<O</ODrafted by the Red Sox in 2010 I played in AA for the entire first year where I did not put up big numbers... the following season (2011) I was able to get my contact and power ratings up a bit and started putting up the kind of numbers the organization was looking for and quickly got promoted to AAA.

Shortly after the Red Sox (my hometown team) broke my heart by dealing me to the Angels in the middle of the season. I finished the season hitting .285 with 5 homers and 35 RBI's, but apparently that was not enough as I started the 2012 season back in AA.

In 2012 I started the season back in AA where I was hitting .300 with 3 HR's and 17 RBI's early in the season and was dealt once again... this time to the Milwaukee Brewers. My time with the Brewers did not go well as they did not give me the playing time or the opportunities to get enough skill points... and this became a trend. At the trade deadline I was moved one more time... this time to the Florida Marlins.

This whole time I have been shuffling between AA and AAA putting up decent numbers, but my ratings were slowly getting there... The Marlins made me an everyday started in AA where I went bananas and hit .428 with 5 HR and 18 RBI in my first 15 games and quickly got promoted to AAA. When the minor league season ended the moment I had been waiting for four years finally came as I got called up as part of the roster expansion... What a great feeling it was!

My first game was at home against the New York Mets and in my first at bat I ripped one between left center field for a double... My first career HR came the two days after in Atlanta where in the top of the 8th and the game tied at 5 I hit a bomb right through center field and over the wall... I had to stand up to enjoy it. To make things even better I hit for the cycle the following series in New York against the Mets.

Currently I am ranked 3/5 in the Organization for 3B and got myself a four year 3,325,000 contract. Feels good to finally call a place home and know I will be staying in the majors for a little while at least.

    I love this game! <O</O

Re: RTTS: What's the biggest contract you have signed?

spent 1.5 years in the minors, and i'm now in my 2nd full year at the show. at 1b, i dropped 77HRs last year, went and won the world series (made it through wild card..phillies destroyed the division). signed a 3 yr $38MM contract. turned down the 8 year $100MM offer....cuz I can't imagine being stuck with the Nats for that long, but to be fair, i'm really digging Nats' stadium. Plus, I feel like I'm worth more

this is the first ever MLB game I've played since RBI baseball, no joke. i'm playing it on Veteran difficulty...and i've not messed with sliders yet, don't really understand it. and I've never bought any training points either, didn't even know you could do that till 30 mins ago, reading through these forums.

thus far this season (now in july i think), i'm behind pace to beat my RBI/HR/hits stats from last season....my runs are primarily the results of my own doing via HRs...but i'm hopeful of making the WS again - we're actually 1.5 games ahead of the phillies

Ive found a good way to improve your player, save all ur training points till the end of the month, obviously use them for your advancement goals but keep the rest saved up, then make sure you train all areas so u dont start decreasing and then wack all the rest of your points on one area, ive being doing it, and putting them all on speed, ive gone from around having a speed of 38 to around 58 now!!
Yeah I've been passing every other set of goals so I'm doing ok on my goals. I just hope I can turn things around. In the minors I was doing great always having an average above .330.

I feel like a bust lol.

I probably should move on from Veteran to All Star difficulty. I batted .465 in my 1st season at the Show, and now my in my second season I'm still batting .420ish. My biggest problem is that the .580 that I'm not getting a hit, I probably strike out 70% of the time. I always fail the strike out goals, but my manager showers me with praise cuz I meet the others...so I continue to whiff away :P

Sometimes I just don't get RTTS. I have an elite SP (ranked #1 in the MLB), with 95-99 in every relevant rating (all X/9 and pitch ratings), but I'm still getting shelled every game. In my last year (before I got to be ranked #1), I went 23-4 with a 1.54 ERA and 230+ K's, but this year I've had 5 starts and given up 5 or more ER in 3 of them, all in the first 2 innings. I could understand being in a slump, and maybe giving up 2-3 ER a game, but 5 in 2 innings every game? It always happens where I get 2 outs, and then I can't buy the third out and give up 2-3 runs. Rinse, repeat for the next inning.

I hadn't played in over a week so I thought I'd give 'er a go this morning. First batter I walked and I thought, "Uh oh, it's going to get ugly fast." No so much. Started to get on a role after that and ended up with my first ever No-No. 3BB so not a perfect game. Also had base-runners to deal due to an error and I hit a guy in the foot trying to get him to chase on a 0-2 count.

Best moment came in the 7th inning, and I didn't even know this was in the game. I'm through 7 1/3 and the batter just drills one high and deep. It shows the behind the homeplate homerun camera. I thought for sure it was gonzo. As it continues to rise you can see it drifting and it appears to go foul past the pole. They rule it foul but then they umps gather and go for a review. First time I've ever seen this and it's happening in a game where I'm 8 outs away from a no hitter. They show a replay, I have no idea what they're going to call. They come back out, foul ball. Whew!

                  9IP, 3BB, 8SO, 115NP, ZERO HITS!

RTTS - Can you re-break the consecutive games hit record?

I'm sure I'm going to jynx myself by posting this, but last season I broke the 56 game hitting record...I can't recall what I got to...mighta been 62? 63? Either way, I think I got a crap ton of training points for it.

Does anyone know if one can re-break records you've set for the same reward points?

You get credit for breaking the record (in the accolades area) but you don't get a ton of points for it like you do the first time.

I had a 62 game streak in 2012 and just ended a 68 game streak in 2016, didn't get any points for the streak after 50

Still struggling. Can't seem to get above .260.

Whenever I have runners in scoring position I do horrible at the plate. I get excited and swing at pitches I usually wouldn't swing at.

just broke the hit streak. the very next game i was the PH and hit a deep popup and struggled since.
it was second time i was PH, during the 24th game i was PH but luckily i got a groundball and beat the throw.

Maybe someone can help me with this. I've been playing RTTS on the PS2 as a second baseman. It's a lot of fun, except when I need to go cover second base. Say there's a man on first with one out, and the ball gets hit to the SS. I start running towards second base, and I'm about 3 yards away, when the SS starts to throw me the ball. Suddenly, my player just stops moving--and he refuses to start moving again until he safely has the ball in his hands. By this time, I'm lucky if I can get the guy at second out, and have no chance at turning two.

It's gotten to the point where every time it's a possible DP situation, I have to wait a split-second to see if the balls being hit anywhere near me, and then instantly going to second everytime while ignoring everything else that's going on.
