    Who are your "system" guys?

We all have them. Those players that we bring with us no matter what team we're using in our franchise. Maybe their potential isn't high. Maybe they'll never even be a full-fledged starter, but you bring them over by trade or waiver wire because they play a key role in the success of your team.

    Mine are:

    Macho Harris, CB
If you'll recall, he was a Free Safety in M10 for the Philadelphia Eagles. I used him in M10 on my Vikings franchise, because this guy is an absolute terror. He can lay the lumber, and for me, he always came up big when it counted. I traded 3rd and 4th rounders and got him via trade from Philly, and he was the cornerstone of my secondary throughout my franchise. His rating never got over 83, but the rating also didn't do him much justice. If you got hit by Macho Harris, you fumbled. He wasn't much for coverage, however. He'd grab one or two picks a season, but I used him mostly for run coverage. I remember one year, toward the end of his storied career, Gerald Sensabaugh became available via free agency. Needless to say, I jumped all over that and enjoyed a dominate performance from my backfield. Currently, I'm using him in my Jets Franchise for M11. They moved him to corner, but I traded for him and converted him back to a Free Safety. He's enjoyed mild success through the first five games of the season. He's forced one fumble and recovered another one (which he took in for a touchdown). I look forward to having him on my squad for the next 10-11 years.

    Steve Breaston, WR
Now here's a guy I have many stories about! Steve Breaston has always been my third wideout. He's the guy that can get me through in the clutch when I need it most. He was part of my Vikings squad last year. He wasn't an immediate sign for me, either. It was Year 4 of my franchise when he became available and I figured, "Why not? I need someone to sit behind Mike Fitzgerald and Hakeem Nicks." Little did I know, he'd be a key member of my team for the remainder of his career. I fondly remember a game against New England at Gillette Stadium. It was snowing, and Hakeem Nicks had just broken his collar bone. I was down 24-10 going into the second half, and all I had were Steve and Mike Fitzgerald. For those of you who haven't played with Mike Fitzgerald, let me tell you, he is DEFINITELY a possession receiver. Anyway, I moved Breaston up to the number one slot, and he finished the game with 100+ receiving yards and a touchdown as I went on to beat the Patriots in overtime. He's now on my Jets squad, and sure enough, Braylon Edwards gets injured in the first game of the year. Guess who my number one is now? That's right. Steve Breaston.

    Dennis Dixon, QB
There isn't much that can be said about Dennis Dixon. He's a favorite of mine. I have hardly ever had to use him much, because he's simply not meant to start for my team. Any of them. He's always been a backup, but I have him there as my fall-back plan in case someone goes down. He's always been injury prone. In year 9 of my Vikings franchise, Kyle Orton took a spill and blew out his ACL, which ended his season. Sure enough, it was Dennis Dixon's time to shine. He'd been riding the coat tails for 8 years, and it was time for him to show what he could do. He rewarded me for the opportunity by getting injured two games later, effectively ending his season as well. His production was solid though, I do recall that. He wasn't stellar by any means, but he did the work. I attempted to give him the reigns this year when I gutted the Jets. I completely rebuilt the team, leaving very few players left from the original roster. Dennis Dixon was going to be the hood ornament of my team, the quarterback of the future. However, he got injured in the second week of pre-season, and just barely came back (Week 7). I'm not even bothering to insert him into the starting lineup, however. Michael Vick rose to prominence in his absence, and I'm not about to bench him yet. So Dixon can look forward to another 3-4 years of coat tail riding.

    Justin Forsett, HB
Justin Forsett is a young gun running back that plays a role in my offense. I brought him in as a sort of outside specialist. He was used as a compliment to my heavy-hitter, Kendrick House. As we all know though, House is a very injury prone backer, so Forsett saw plenty of carries as my franchise progressed. He's a speedy little guy that's hard to hit. After three or four plays of Kendrick House running up the middle, Forsett could usually bust a 10-15 yard run to the outside on the pitch. It was money every time. I haven't decided if I want to bring him back for my Jets franchise, however. I have a different running scheme this year (Ryan Mathews with Toby Gerhart as his backup), and I'm not sure how I would fit Justin in. I've been a bit underwhelmed lately by Toby Gerhart, so I may be looking to switch things up depending on how the rest of the season goes.

    Fred Davis, TE
Fred Davis is new to my "system" roster. I didn't use him once last season. I saw his performance in the actual NFL and said to myself, "Hmm, I'm not partial to tight ends, but this guy could be a nice addition to my team." I can't even begin to express how happy I am that I made that move. He's my go-to guy when Mike Vick gets in a jam. He'll get you 7-8 yards every time if you can get him the ball. Fred Davis is a monster, and I'm looking forward to having him on my Jets squad for the next few seasons.

Those are my guys. Now I want to hear about all of yours! I might even jot a few notes down and check out some players myself.

I only have one. Darren McFadden. He's my second back in all my two back teams plus a returns genius. Follows me wherever I go.

Lol, I start Dixon, it's what I do to keep my franchise challenging. He is really the most dreadful thing you've ever seen when throwing the ball in the constant Seattle rain.

Man Im starting to think Taylor Mays may be a guy I add to every franchise I play in. He is great to use if you User a Safety, I like to move him to the SS position and bring him in the box in the 4-6, mans a BEAST.

Last Years Madden I always grabbed Leon Washington. Loved throwing him swing passes/screens, using him in the singleback and shotgun formations, and ofcourse returning kicks as well. When the going got tough, I leaned on Neon Leon heavily and he came through for me.

Brandon Flowers is a solid corner that can play safety as well, he is even better in this years Madden (which will make him harder to trade for) but I like using.

Eric Smith, a safety for the Jets, is a solid depth player who is valuable at stuffing the run and can make Big Hits. He is better at the SS position than at FS in my opinion as he is not that fast, but he is tough and can tackle.

I used WR Kevin Curtis for years since he was with St Louis. He is like my version of "Wayne Chrebet" who plays the slot and special teams as well. He has been injury prone the last couple years though so probably wont be using him anymore, unless I get him for next to nothing.

On DEFENSE I always play a 3-4/4-6 so I always look for Big, Strong LBers on the inside and Pass Rushers on the OLB position. I usually look for young LBers who already have some strength and speed and just need to develop their awareness and play recognition. Pittsburgh usually has some good, young guys that arent rated high that you can pick up for cheap and work with like Worilds.

One of mine use to be Elvis Dumervil, but he broke out last year and his rating skyrocketed. Even since, I haven't gotten him because the asking price (either trade or free agency) was too much. I'm going to see what I can make of Cameron Wake in his place.

Cadillac Williams, Antwan Barnes, and Derrick Williams are a few others.

Darrelle Revis/Nnamdi Asogmugha (Depends on who I'm working with)

Micheal Turner- Even when he was just a backup. In my eyes, he's the second coming of Jerome Bettis, only faster.

Verron Haynes. Always traded for him from the Steelers from like Madden 2003 up until 07/08 maybe, when he was still listed at HB and would always switch him to FB. Was gutted when he didn't make Madden 09 (or the NFL) so imagine my delight when the Falcons picked him up last year and he made one of the roster updates. Seeing him on the free agents list in Madden 11 was equally immense and he's pretty much guaranteed to be the first transaction I make when I start franchise mode.

Replace "Packers" with "49ers", and this is my response.

I only franchise with that team.

However, that said, there are players around the league that I like to acquire. I don't always go out of my way to get them (I typically avoid much big time trades and free agency signings for the first season, and play with the team I have, and save the roster tweaking for season 2), but they are who I like to aim for.

Last year, that guy was Bernard Pollard. I loved having him in the secondary with his high tackle / high hit power ratings. Originally signed him as a backup, but he made some special teams plays (caused a couple turnovers), so by my 2nd season he won the starting job from Michael Lewis. This year, Taylor Mays is that guy for me, I love that guy in Madden.

I typically like to get a real speedy back to be my change of pace to Gore / 3rd down back. Mostly, the guy I target is Jerrious Norwood.

Lawrence Timmons is another one. He's a great addition to the 3-4 defense next to Patrick Willis.

And I like to have myself a speedy quarterback. Maybe it's because playing as the 49ers forever, and the horrible o-lines, I need QB movement, or maybe it's from being used to running around with Garcia all the time back in the days, but I need a QB that can move. Last year my targets were Michael Vick (Eagles didn't resign him after 1st season) and Dennis Dixon. I also got Terrelle Pryor out of the imported draft class, but once I got Pryor, I had to quit my franchise. Even on All-Madden mode, it was way to easy to exploit the CPU with Pryor. I'd set my offense to 4 wide spread out, all streaks, and Pryor in the shotgun. The DB's would be back to cover the deep routes, and all I'd need to do was bootleg out with Pryor, and then take it up field. I was averaging 200 yards rushing with Pryor a game. So I ended up quitting that franchise mode.

There are some 49ers' players I couldn't live without, however.

Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, and Patrick Willis are all must haves. I utilize my TE a lot, so Vernon is absolutely the best TE in the game for what I do. Michael Crabtree is the perfect WR for me, since I don't have the offense to air it out deep, Crabtree is perfect on the underneath routes and screens. And Patrick Willis on defense is amazing.

Re: Who are your "system" guys?

In Madden 10, I remember these players being great for me:

-Shagg Makino (but that's because I didn't know what cheesing was and thought it was legit to throw to your RB all the time. I only played the CPU, thankfully)
                    -Louis Murphy
                    -Julian Edelman
                    -Nate Washington
                    -Dustin Keller

I've never really had any playmakers at any defensive position, sadly. I'm kind of tempted to start another fantasy draft franchise, but choosing all young guys makes it far too easy.

I'm a big SD fan so last year I would ALWAYS grab LT, but this year I know I have to stick with Gates or Rivers, Gates is a dominant force this year and for me Rivers is just perfect.

jerry hughes is my go to as is josh morgan

hughes when I sim and play lde he is good for double digit sacks no matter what, and when I play morgan is an awesome go to player. He will never get better than like 86 but that's fine 91 catch 90 catch in traffic.

though I've played with calvin johnson and holy jesus christ he might be a go to but at 91 and I usually pick terrible teams so trade ammo is not usually sitting there waiting. I can't afford to give up a number of draft picks for him.

Re: Who are your "system" guys?

I love these kind of discussions. I feel that some of the answers aren't necessarily in the spirit of the idea of a "system" player. Some pretty big names have been thrown out and they are players that a lot of people would love to have on their teams.

I used to have a couple guys that I always wanted around. They never had great ratings but I always made sure to have them around at some point in my Franchise. I almost always use the Chiefs on my Franchise modes

Benny Sapp CB - This guy was one of my All-Time favorite "system" guys. He never had a high rating and didn't always get a lot of play time in my Franchise, but he was always amazing on Special Teams and I loved to bring him in on Dime blitzes. I have a lot of memories of this guy just being a pesky player for my friends to deal with whenever we would play.

Bobby Carpenter LB - Another guy who never had an amazing rating but would always find his way onto my team. He was big on Special Teams as well as Pass Defense. When the Chiefs still ran 4-3, he was my ROLB for a long time.

Brad Smith WR - This is a player who I originally brought over because I'm a big Mizzou fan. Then he turned into one of my most clutch players. For whatever reason he always made a catch when I needed it the most or would always manage to add 4-5 yards every time he got the ball.

Those were all guys that I used to always have around and were a mainstay in my Franchise. I have found some new guys this year though that I already know will be part of every Franchise mode I run this year

Dexter McCluster WR/HB - Or the "DeX Factor" as he has earned so far for me. Coming in at a 70 OVR WR (71 at HB) and standing only 5'8" and 170lbs, this guy is quick as a hiccup. So far, I have always moved him to HB but still sub him in at Slot WR. The Chiefs plan on using him a variety of different ways and I plan on doing the same thing.

Atiyah Ellison DT - I don't trade for this player as he almost always ends up in Free Agency the first Off-Season. He is another MU Tiger and I like having him as part of my DLine rotation. He doesn't have attributes that will wow you, but he doesn't give up much ground for me. I keep him at DT in my 3-4 Defense and he holds his on against the run.

Other Players I like Picking up from Free Agency
                            • Jevan Snead - Great #3 who develops nicely
                            • Terrelle Smith - I'm a runner...need a blocker to lead the way for Charles and Jones
                            • Grady Jackson - Nice savvy veteran who is a monster in the middle of my 3-4
                            • Jevon Kearse - Still has enough talent to generate a rush on passing downs
                            PSN - RedSea_Rouch

You can get him for next to nothing because he is now a free agent.

Anyways for me its WR Kevin Ogletree. For some reason Dallas always lets him become a free agent so I always get him in the free agent period. This guy is very fast. He's great in the slot and I use him as my kick returner.
