    Defending Speed

So I have been getting burned by Johnson, Felix Jones, and Peterson online a lot. I was just wondering how to defend when people cheese with them.

Can you define the word "cheese" as it relates to the use of these running backs that you mentioned? In general I would say spotlight those runners when you think they are getting the ball. On pass plays manually cover them yourself. i would also make sure that you maintain gap control and always have outside contain. Most users of speed backs use a lot of counters and two gaps run plays that they can bounce out side. You can mitigate a good majority of this by shooting the gaps and shifting your defensive lineman. Always control the wideside of the field with constant pressure.

The only way to defend speed is with speed!

A 3-4 cover 3 press works well, also a dollar cover 1 press works good and a nickel engage...

If you blizz, you will get burnt! you will need to learn how to manually control your safety and DB's to stop the run

So they didn't remove the spotlight? I've been trying to do spotlight on defense, but it always just ends up goofy, due to the new strat pad. Part of me had just assumed they took the spotlight out.

The things Johnny Knox and Devin Hester have done to old *** Al Harris in my secondary are illegal in 47 states. With legislation pending in a 48th.

I hate them and their stupid ridiculous speed. It's not fair.

You dont use the strategy pad use just hold RT and pick which guy you want to spotlight.

adjusting the speed ratio slider as well as fatigue slider and shouldnt be a problem..you have to anticipate some big plays ..however

Most big plays that I have let up have been off of sweeps, pitches, and stretches. I try to blitz to that area but even when I get there I am a second late so I will try to spotlight and put pressure on the weakside.

                    Thanks everyone.

ah ha//so thjats how we do it this year lol

To the OP....play set up helps alot.

Most people dont have the patience to run between the tackles consistantly.

Slant your DL to the strength of the formation, abdspread your LBs.

or, audible your DL to fan, and shift them to the strong side.

Protect yourself from the inside run manually, by controlling a DT and reading and shedding to blow up gaps, or a MLB or S.

You did not mention any Defensive formations? The only package that I found to stuff Johnson is a 3-4 strong cover 3 press, then slanting you LBs to the strong side but he can still slip through and burn you at times.

If you call a blitz, the guy runs around the blitz and no one can catch the guy. The bottom line is that people that know how to use johnson will burn you eventually, you can not consistantly contain this guy.

                          Just use your common sense.

I roll with a 4-3, and do okay.

Blitzing doesn't stop the run in Madden. Even run blitzing. You need a wide spread formation such as cover 3 to have a guy literally sitting in the flats.

Then spread your inside linebackers apart a bit, so they can get to the edge quicker while still being able to get to the middle

My point is you can not consistantly contain this guy if the opposition knows how to use johnson, I have shut him down but this guy was pro johnson, one and I mean one miss tackle and hes off to the paradise city
