The upgrade is complete, but you've probably noticed the forums are only showing posts up to about April 8. Posts made after that are still in the process of being moved over, and that should take another week or two. Feel free to start a new thread.
The site might feel a little slow while work continues. Engineers are staying on it through the night to get things moving faster again. Thanks for your patience.
Wow, that's sad to hear. I wonder if this had anything to do with MJ. I always heard he was too expensive to be in games these days, but 2k made it happen.....
Nah, he couldn't of been that expensive.
..::Not changing this until Seattle gets another NBA team::..

That cant be good for attention to detail aspects.. Then again, the average Joe has been asked for photos of certain things by certain individuals to help aid in the development of the game over the past few years. So they've been short handed before with the asking of help by the fans. This blow will hurt them even more. If they needed help then, I can't imagine how much help they'd need now.

I believe you might be onto something here, though, I'm sure it's more complicated than that.
But, yes, video game companies will do this. Actually, lots of jobs do this. If the company hires extra people to get something done and that something is done then that company no longer needs those people.
Happens all the time in film and television. It's hard but I would think that most of the names expected that they would have to find new employment. Again, doesn't make it easy or ok, but makes it somewhat easier to know they should be all right.
yea alot of programmers are freelancers and I'm sure alot of them knew b4 hand what was happening. But yea no matter what the economic climate is you should expect this if you're looking for a job in the games industry......

this happens a lot in the game industry. companies hire people to work on a game, then when the game is done they lay them off because they don't need them anymore. seems strange that they'd lay off people now though, considering that 2k has been selling well.
Folks in an organization, headcount goes a longer way in a corporation than one time budget items like signing MJ.
WIth headcount, you have to figure salary, healthcare and fringe benefits. Even worse, these cost are incurred for the life of the employee (as long as he is employed there). I live these issues daily at work.
While I hate to hear about layoffs, what's crazy to me is that I was JUST talking to one of my friends, early in the afternoon, about how 2KSports really only has NBA2K really to bank on, now. This is sad but at the same time, I really wonder how much bank rolling MJ had an affect on this situation. If it came down to all this for ONE man, that's terrible.
