    Victorious Road

For anyone who's played the game, is it worth purchasing a japanese ps2 just to play hajime no ippo 2: victorious road? I really want to play a boxing game with a deep career mode. Also, is it easy to understand the instructions in career mode, give that everything's in japanese?

The career mode is ridiculously deep. But since it's mostly in Japanese it's hard to understand - especially setting your diet and training.

But this site has some excellent tips and manuals:

But the career mode is so good man. All the real belts, serious training, diet, various fighting styles, etc. It's very, very deep.

Thanks man. How long does it last? Is there a predetermined age that you retire or a predetermined number of fights before you retire?

              Preach!

Still the most fun i've ever had with a boxing game.

              I'll elaborate tomorrow.

No. As you get older you slow down and when you get in your 40s, you get so slow that you can't compete. like your opponents will be younger and faster and your guy will simply not be physically able to compete in his 40s. however, the diet and conditioning system is so deep that it's possible to develop a good diet and training system that allows you to fight into your 40s. It's a very hard hard game to even build up your guy correctly. you have to read FAQs and sample diets. it takes a while but it's worth it. great game.

if you aren't careful you could lose all your speed and stamina in your late 20's. it's ultra realistic. you have to keep your bad health at a minimum.

                      Re: Victorious Road

I started my career at about 135 lbs, i was 5'11 with a good reach. I did this after much testing due to the fact i found a diet and training regimen that got me great results, but I would gain about a pound or 2 per month.

This made it almost impossible to stay in a weight class for long.

I lost my first pro fight. didnt train well and underestimated my opponent. I didnt let this happen again and went on a 20 fight win streak.

By that time i was up to about 150 pounds.

YOu start the game in Japan, i quickly became the Japan champ but I had to leave due to the fact Japan only goes up to Welterweight.(I could be wrong, its been awhile).

I went to america continued my win streak and eventually earned the right to challenge the USBA Middleweight Champ Sugar Ray Leonard!
It was the most difficult fight of my career!

Yeah, it's a very interesting read.

                            Re: Victorious Road

When i arrived in America i was excited because i finally got to eat some food i can actually recognize. Plus becoming the Japan champ allowed me to earn some nice cash. So I hired the cool looking expen$ive trainer with the yellow jumpsuit, in hopes he could increase my speed.
It paid off, not only did my speed increase but I was gaining strength in both my hands, my arms, legs, and back(my neck was still weak tho).
I was overtraining because i loved my results but it was bad for my overall health. So to counteract this i would rest for about a week without training, before fights. That way i'd go into the bout fully healthy. The drawback tho, was i would lose some strenght and speed(minimal) due to the lay off.

My former Japan champ Prince Vasteem(me) liked the increase in competition that the U.S. provided. In Japan, dudes were usually much smaller than i was, In america i was fighting dudes that were sometimes bigger than me.

The Champ Sugar Ray was my height with a longer reach and an undefeated record(sweet!). There were actually 2 champs the other being Marvelous Marvin Hagler, I decided to PBF it and chose the easier route against Sugar Ray.
The tale of the tape before the fight revealed i had no advantages coming into this fight.
I knew i wasn't ready to fight him. I didnt have the physical tools that he did, he had more speed, more power. Tho what I lacked in physicality i made up for it with tremendous heart and intelligence.
I was going to have to go into the fight and make adjustments and thats what i did.

                            Round 1.
I come in with my Prince Naseem like style, hands low fast hands and punches from strange angles.
I enjoyed a considerable speed advantage in my previous fights. It was clearly aparent that Sugar Ray was in a class all by himself.
I basically had to jab just to connect. Flurries that would've landed against normal men whiffed miserably. Not to mention his ridiculous footspeed. He'd be in and out before i knew what hit me.
                            -1st round Sugar Ray

There is a way to play that game without purchasing a japanese system. It does not involve piracy either. PM me and I'll give you the details.
