Exactly!!! I could careless about a "Deepers, Simpler and Quicker game". 99% of the users on this forum want a realistic football simulation.

Re: Weak Madden Sales Signaling Trouble for Game Industry

I love how the article, just like the OP and the title of this threads wants to suggest SO BADLY... yet buried towards the end [as a lot of reads TL: DR articles] it finally admits:

Admittedly, the game has only been out for slightly over a week—and it’s a title that typically has a long tail at retail. It will be November (when EA is next scheduled to report earnings) before we get a solid sales comparison of this year and last year’s “Madden.”

It’s also possible these price cuts have little to do with the game’s initial sales and could be the first round in this year’s price wars between the retail giants. During holiday 2009, Amazon and Wal-Mart slugged it out for consumer loyalty, with book and video game prices often at the center of the battle. GameStop, which is typically slower to react to price wars, was ultimately forced to join in the fray.
Also, as both the OP and the article copletely FAILS to note, there were a TON of deals listed before Aug 10th. From Sports Illustrated, to Wal*Mart and others advertising first days sales and deals. Were those deals, before the game even released an "indication of slow sales?!?" Give me a break.

      Haters gonna hate.

You summed it all up on the same way I was feeling.

I don't know about anywhere else, but there was at least 75 people lined up outside of GS at midnight release. I don't live in a large metropolitan area, either.

Ha at EA's market research. This is so disturbing because it still look like the people that make a football game dont watch football games.

This is why I didn't get the game this year. Hopefully it forces EA's hand to really make a great game.

I completely agree with you on this. As much as i enjoy gaming online with other people, i feel like the true beast of past maddens were their franchise mode. It gave us an interesting look and feel to the game. I remember NFL 2K5 very vividly for their weekly preparations. It wasn't the most innovate thing, but it was certainly interesting.

Having a certain time to train certain players and to rehab others so they could come back earlier...it was that sort of thing that gave the game leg to me. Madden after the last generation has fallen off completely when it came to franchise mode. Instead of catering to the mode, they introduced another half baked mode called Super Star mode.

I want some to do in franchise mode again. I want to have mandatory practices where i run over plans with the team for certain game situations, i don't care to much about managing ticket prices but i want to be able to rehab players and work certain players who i think have potential out.

The on the field stuff is moving in the right direction which is a plus but it is still sort of far from perfection. The gang tackling is a joke and thats one of the biggest aspect of football, the team getting together to make tackles.

I'm not surprised at the low sales, until they show something that knocks people off and shows them how different it is from the previous versions, its not going to excite a lot of people.

As much as i loved 2K5, they've been out of the game too long to make an EXCELLENT football game. I thought All Pro was pretty bland. It did everything 2K5 did but it was dated and didn't feel new or exciting. Then again like it's been mentioned before they only worked on the game for a very limited time, something like 8 months or so.

If they did get back into the game, it would require at LEAST 2 years for them to make a worth while game.

Re: Weak Madden Sales Signaling Trouble for Game Industry

This is the perfect storm for us as gamers. Its getting close to time for the NFL exclusivity EA has to expire, and, and Madden is not selling. A lot of people around here for years have been saying the best way to make Madden improve is to not buy the game. Madden 10 was a decent game, the broken tackles were something I couldn't get past, so I stopped playing it around christmas time. Ea realized that most people thought Madden 10 was good, so instead of improving on the advances they made with 10, they bare touched 11. But see, the smart consumer, and the consumer who is dealing with the economy right now, are not going to spend their money on a stale product. This was the first year since the 90's I didn't even consider buying Madden as I am very happy with NCAA 11. I feel its the best football game to have come out on next-gen consoles and I fall more in love with it the more I play it. Madden is a dead franchise to me right now, and until they build a new engine, slash the price of the game by $20, care about making a good game (not just sales), and lose that exclusive deal I will not purchase madden again. I just hope EA doesn't destroy what they have started with NCAA

I think it will, not by a wide margin, but it will. People around here still think Madden 10 sold worse than 09 becasue they like to ignore facts. Madden 10 had a slow start, but after the holiday season it surpased 09's sales. The linked article even admits it really has ZERO hard data. The whole thing is an opinion piece with links to stock prices, "on sale" ads, and meta critic.

                              Not sure at this point.

I would think it would hover around 10's sales.
