Gotta say i'm with everyone else on this one.... The skill stick is the way to go definitely. The curve is steep, yes, but there comes with it a connection to the player you are controlling. It just isn't the same holding down the square button to rip a shot from the point and having it deflected in for a goal. Totally different experience. Like was said before me, take your time with the demo and tutorials, and learn the skill stick. Miles ahead of button pressing.

I don't think you would be at a disadvantage with classic controls but you'd be missing out on a ton of gratifying moments and plays without using default controls. If you have the time, definitely stick with the default control class and use the demo as a training ground. Look at the controls and focus on one control for a few minutes and you'll have it down pretty quick, even as a beginner. You would definitely sell yourself short overall using any other configuration IMO."Without question Barchy is a great fit for that room and our organ-AI-zation."Comment

(regarding face-off loop)
I can totally appreciate the difficulty in pin-pointing the problem. Definitely appreciate that you guys eliminated known intentional causes from 10. That's a plus. And even though our club has found a counter that's almost 100% effective, it'd be great to not have to deal with all the bs. Fingers crossed here.Comment

Re: NHL 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I've been playing this demo all day and I really only have one complaint. Stick control on defense is still horrible. You should be able to position your stick while skating and maintaining your speed. It is something even the crappiest defenseman can do in his sleep. But still, I've been playing the DEMO all day. 2K10 and NHL 10 never made it more than a game or to before being shut off out of frustration. I have a 360 that hasn't been turned on in months and now I can't turn it off."Faith: Not wanting to know what is true." Friedrich Nietzsche

Re: NHL 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Allow me to add a third impression (or fourth, I lost count!)
After I watch an NFL game on TV, I get the urge to play an NFL video game (I won't name names) and try to replicate what I just watched. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite work....some things just don't look/ feel right, ya know?
Now, the NHL Network has been replaying playoff series from last year. After I watch, I play this here demo. And lo and behold, besides the little things like broadcast camera not being quite authentic, and Finals patches not being in, I AM able, for the most part, to replicate what I just saw.
What authenticity!!! This game is owning me at the moment, and it's only a one period demo!!!!
I'm really trying to master the controls at the moment, and I bumped gameplay to rookie just to score some goals, and it's alot easier for a newbie like me. When I play normal gameplay, it's tough to get one goal.
I'm really looking forward to this game in full. I am loving the demo, but am also getting tired of playing as these two teams, lol.....Comment

I really enjoyed it in '10', and there's some very decent improvements to the mode for '11'. Some known...and supposedly a rather "Big one" yet to be announced. I know I can't wait to get started.1969 NFL ChampionsComment

Re: NHL 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
honestly?
find someone else to play who equally is new to the game. with the proper controls and try and have fun learning them
because once you do this game becomes one of the best sports sims ever made. the control scheme is a BIG part of the games terrific gameplay.I don't think you would be at a disadvantage with classic controls but you'd be missing out on a ton of gratifying moments and plays without using default controls. Re: NHL 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
i know.
the demo is great and all, but i am too depserate to play a full 30min+ game. i know it will be so special.
considered renting nhl 10 (never owned it or played it massively) but the real time physics make this game much more fair, even and fun. and tahst the main reason im desperate for nhl 11, the fact theres less ai involved and more just the puck pohysics when shooting and blocking etc.Comment

Re: NHL 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Oh I know. Gameplay only-wise, this game's owning me!
I know Be a GM is probably gonna be deeper than the Grand Canyon. Since I'm not familiar with alot of players in the league, it's gonna be challenging for me to build a team up to championship contention.
Funny how we've longed for RFA's and UFA's in other games, and along comes NHL with those features.
Guess I'll start "locally" and try to build the Blue Jackets up.Comment

Re: NHL 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I see where you are coming from, but I don't think the BAP camera is good enough to force it on everyone. It still has a number of issues in my opinion (I don't use it) including field of view changes, not showing what you should be able to see some times, frame rate issues in spots and disorienting transitions on occasions.
If only there was a way for me to make a camera similar to BAP high without the darn swivel...Comment
