I'm also fairly certian this is the only game that puts its ending in the demo. My initial impression was that it feels more cheap and rigged than ever but I'm not sure anymore. Give it a rent I guess.

Edit: Nvm. It is cheaper and more rigged than ever. Not even worth renting.
care to elaborate on your issues? because you seem to be the only one that has them

honestly, you compare the passing in this game to being "harder" than Backbreaker... perhaps your playing on too difficult a level then, or your skills are beyond sub par (the fact that you imply you couldn't win faceoffs last year seems to indicate you don't actually know how to play, because I didn't even have a slight challenge w/ faceoffs until I played on Superstar last year)

either way, maybe its you and not the game

Finally got to spend some time with the 360 version of the Demo and came away very impressed. I still play NHL 10 and NHL 11 just feels like a very polished version of that game, with some nice additions.

I switched to Manual passing several months ago in NHL 10, so I thought the passing in the Demo was just fine. It felt a bit more responsive than 10, which I liked.

I'm sure it is there but I didn't notice a huge difference in terms of the new physics engine that they put into the game.

I like that goalies are more aggressive to play pucks behind the net.

Goal variety seems improved from 10.

Graphics are a little crisper than 10, but not a huge difference (and I wasn't expecting there to be)

Now comes the hard part, deciding on whether to part ways with NHL 10 right now and trade it in towards 11, or hold on to the game, play it for a few more weeks and get 11 later in the year, perhaps as late as Christmas?

All I can say is get it now. Playing a full game in NHL11 is gonna be awesome, then think about a whole season. Oh no, I've gotta go lie down.

Had a game tonight that went into OT tied at 2.

Playing on All-Star [normal] there was a lot of neutral zone play with this one, along with several AI controlled checks that were great to see. And even a fair amount of turnovers. Both myself and the AI had some great scoring chances that provided some real "Wow" moments.

The game ended at the 19:50 mark of the second OT with me scoring on a garbage goal down deep, after a scramble for the loose puck. "Rewarding" is how the whole game felt...and it's ending felt really rewarding.

I suppose I should have more balance with my posts, rather than always so dang positive all the time. But I just having found much of anything I don't really like.

Edit: I did think of something I wish was in the game that isn't....getting thrown outta the face-off circle.

Does anyone feel like switching player is more defensive in it's mechanics than earlier.

In 10 there was occations we're I wanted to switch to one of the D's when the game turned in the offensive zone, but I kept switching to the two guys closest to the puck.
This was before (just a few months ago) I realised that if you hold down R2/RT you always switch to the D-man.

But now in the demo, it's like it's the other way around... When the play turns in the offensive zone and the CPU goes on attack I keep switching between my two D's instead of the guy (forward) closest to the puck, unless he's really close.
It is deffinately better, this is not a bashing... but with the new hustle feature I've felt many times that I wanna chase with a forward and let the D's position themself automatically.

Anyone else notice it, and is anyone aware of any "hidden" player switching features? (holding down R2/RT wasn't in the manual last year was it?).

Thank you EA - This game is officially better than sex

that would be cool, which leads me to an NHL pet peeve of mine. Can the damn linesmen just drop the puck when both players get into the dot? I dont know when these delay dropping of the puck tactics started by these linesmen, but it really pisses me off. Back in the 80, early 90s the linesman got into the circle and just dropped the puck. I hate when they stand there and wait.

Okay, after playing a lot more over the past few days I'm still seeing something that I hope is fixed over the course of the '3-year-plan' they have with this new physics engine.

The game is still too 'clean' at times. Watch when you run into an opposing player. Not so much throw a hit, but just get the body into his. The two players will 'roll' off of each other like two negative-magnets. The skaters don't lose any momentum, and the puck carrier doesn't lose the puck or step.
It's like they have a force field around them that can only be penetrated when you throw a hit and it's at a perfect angle.

I think when EA can fix this, the game will really take off and have an even more organic feel to it. Scrums in corners, along the boards and in front of the net will take on a new life.

I think this is exactly where it's going and I can't wait. This was the first thing that popped into my head when they told us about the physics engine. This year it seems to only be activated once a check has been thrown, and even then it's somewhat limited feeling.

I know the Madden guys are always complaining about WR's and CB's not slapping each other enough as they run their routes and fight for position, I guess this my version of that. To me hockey is the definition of a physical sport, something that has never been translated properly in a video game. Last year 2k had a few good (although canned and completely random in occurrence) wrestling for body position animations that went a long way in generating some moderately realistic plays. So much of the game relies on gaining position and just being strong and tough, battling for the puck. If EA's engine can start to factor in these away from the puck interactions, it will be incredible.

and don't forget, player-net collisions, player-teammate collisions, player-goalie and ref and board collisions!

Yep I've noticed this too Money.

Just kinda thrown this out there but...as far as I can tell, I think it's connected to the Hit difficulty slider, were this slider increases or decreases that "Force field" around the cpu players. Kind of like if you've ever, post whistle, tried to run your player right straight to the cpu goal...and the player gets deflected away. Kinda something like that.

I don't know if I'm explaining myself very well but, I do know what ya mean.

Id be all for EA not releasing a game at all next year, just so they can have the final product released quicker.

I understood your explanation perfectly. And I hope you're right. Hopefully the slider can help somewhat.

When we get the retail game, and with the working sliders I can lower the cpu's pass accuracy, I think I'll end up playing on All-Star.
