NBA Elite 11 Gameplay Q&A with Novell Thomas (NLSC)

NBA Live Series Center has posted an interview with Novell Thomas, Gameplay Producer for NBA Elite 11.

"Can you talk a little about the post game in NBA ELITE 11? What changes have been made to the controls and available post moves?

With the ability to control your feet and your hands we really wanted to make sure that came through in the post game. You can easily get into back to basket and backdown moves. From there you can perform jumphooks, sky hooks, drop steps, pro hops, running gathers from a backdown. With all of these controls you have all the tools necessary to pull off the moves you want to in the post.

Is the game balanced between offense and defense? Is the Defensive Assist control still available to help users stay with their man?

From a balance standpoint one of our goals was to make playing defense fun. We've had a lot of people say that steals feel powerful, blocks feel powerful, you can successfully stay with the ball carrier, CPU help defenders are more alert and aware of where the ball is and they will dig at the ball to knock the ball loose. So from a defensive standpoint you have the control available to you this year. We don't have defensive assist control this year but we have spent a considerable amount of time putting the player in a position that makes sense from a basketball standpoint and also from what the user is inputting on the control whether it be off-ball or on-ball."

Are gameplay sliders still available for those who wish to tweak the game to their liking? Have any new sliders been added?

We do have sliders this year, however they have been reduced compared to last year due to the game team focusing on the 5 on 5 core gameplay and physics engine.

It might send Playmakers into a coma.

Hopefully the physics play out better than I've seen in the previous videos in the final game. I really am excited for EASBA and the become Legendary mode, and I hope dynasty mode incorporates in a practice mode again, along with improved trade logic, sim stats, etc. Bring on the demo EA!

Reduced sliders. Not good. Every indication shows that this game will be heavily biased towards the offence. Without sliders to make the necessary adjustments EA may have killed their chances of taking some of 2K's sales away. That said, with how good NBA 2K11 is looking, Elite may be dead in the water already.

The answer to the last question is kinda puzzling to me. It's Elite 11 , not Jam.

Yeah not a good note to leave on for those of us who want sim. Not saying thats not a real thing but seriously how often do we see that outside of the all-star game. Come on EA, 2k has jumped out of the dark closet and is beating you silly with the stuff we are seeing and their the guy that don't usually show anything.

yea that response, plus of few others, makes it seem like there are aspects of the game that were left untouched or were just eliminated from the game. I hate when companies drastically change their game for the better but at the same time they take steps back in some areas. I really can't decide how i feel about this game. The controls and physics sound great but I havent seen anything that gets me too excited. EA is really banking on the demo, as the have repeatedly said you need to play the game, but if the demo leaves people unimpressed EA is in trouble.

Oh and the answer to the last question was very disappointing. I thought he was going to reveal something important to the game, instead he basically tells us that we can play NBA Street style if we want
