Sportsmanship Positive Balance club (Season Showdown)

So I noticed the SPORTSMANSHIP category for season showdown is all over the place, mainly with users that have huge numbers in the negative. I use Boise State, ranked #85 or so, but I am ranked #8 overall in Sportsmanship (using Boise). So, for those of you in the negative, do you run up the score all the time or something? And those in the positive, are you playing "Sim" football?

My friends called it "Acrey Ball" because they hated it when I played conservative ball control offense, but hey its just the way I play. If Season Showdown is any indicator of the way people play then there are a TON of cheesers out there which is dissapointing.

Anyways, this is a shout out to the fellow "simmers". I think if I start an online Dynasty I am going to use the "Sportsmanship" category as a filter for who joins.

well for me, I get negative points when I try to copy Texas Tech's offense in real life.

and supposedly passing on 3rd and long is bad sportsmanship as well.

overall, I have positive Sportsmanship point though, but I have had games where I ended up with -200+ sportsmanship because I get docked -100 point from passing on 3rd and long.

well I hate Texas Tech so that's a good thing to me lol
also I love sportsmanship and I'm a "sim" player
I wouldn't look into the sportsmanship rating too much though especially with the pump fake glitch really ruining online play but it can be used but I just see how people act when they get into the dynasty or their attitude through the messages they send me when I'm telling them about the dynasty

but hey I wouldn't knock you for using sportsmanship as a determining factor

        and it depends
if you're throwing for it on 3rd and long in the 4th qtr up by 21 plus points and stuff like that I'd rather just run it but Texas Tech is so disrespectful especially when Mike Leach was there which was why I was ecstatic when they got crushed by Oklahoma lol

Hmm....I am using Army and I dont pass a whole lot. Thats a good point though. I was recently up on FIU 37-7 in the fourth with about 5 mins left , 3rd and 7, and I tried a pass. Incomlplete but I got warned which I totaly disagreed with. But I guess the computers point was, do you really need to pass the ball right now? No.

I've been docked points up by 21 in the 3rd quarter when passing on 3rd and long. one game with TTU, I passed the ball a total of 4 times in the 2nd half, I finished with -220 sportsmanship points. all 4 passes where done in a 3rd and long situation. I used chew clock the entire 2nd half as well.

what am I supposed to do? run the ball, not get a first down and allow the other team to easily comeback?

this is one reason I just don't really look at season showdown any more. I just laugh every time it docks me 100 points for passing on 3rd and long in the 3rd quarter. it's not like I throwing hail marys trying to score TDs all game, just trying to move the chains and run the clock out.

If you pass and get negative then near the end of the game just knee it. You can only get -250 per game and kneeling can easily give 150-180.

Anyways, I try to run the ball the second half anyways so it ends quicker. I think I have around 8,000 points just from Sportsmanship.

I've been hit pretty badly on games where I was passing on 3rd and long too, even when passing in the third quarter (!) because I was ahead by too much apparently. I don't even pay attention to it now, I just try to play realistic football. I never go for two unless I need to and I seldom run up the score on anybody. The logic of it is just screwy.

With how injury prone my players seem to be I usually sub in 2nd team and just run. No point is risking injuring my top players to run up the score when 1) it's a video game and 2) it doesn't affect anything.

Will admit those first down passes on 3rd and long shouldn't count as running it up.

As others have said, the game can be picky about "running it up". I've thrown a screen pass on 3rd and 25 and gotten docked sportsmanship points.

All EA needs to do is adjust it so that:

                      1) you can throw on 3rd and long
                      2) it doesn't take effect until at least halfway through the 3rd
                      3) it doesn't count if 2nd string is in.

Surely that isn't too hard, at least the first two. They do those three things and most people wouldn't have a problem with it.

I'm using Boise St. in my dynasty. I try not to show up the other team when I'm blowing them out but it seems if I so much as attempt a pass to convert a 3rd down I get some kind of warning or - sportsmanship. That only makes me mad so then I just throw a long bomb to my speed receiver Titus Young for a touchdown. Run and tell that ... homeboy.

I have positive sportsmanship, but I have had several games where I end up with negative points. I understand what it's put in for, and I would like it more if they just tweaked it to make it more realistic. You should always be able to pass on third down. It's not running up the score, it's trying to sustain a drive. I don't think negative sportsmanship should kick in until the fourth quarter (and never on third and long)

I've gotten to the point that I just ignore it. I know that I play "sim" and with good sportsmanship, so I don't need the computer telling me whether I am or not. I don't go for every 4th down, onside kick in inappropriate situations, throw hail-marys when I'm comfortably in the lead, etc. Heck, I even skip my player's touchdown celebrations when I play online to avoid rubbing in a score. My conscience is clear, no matter how many positive or negative points the computer gives me.

My team runs an Air Raid offense, why am I getting docked anytime I throw the ball in the second half? I'm not talking about throwing bombs ... I mean I can't throw a bubble screen on 3rd and 8 without getting getting a warning or being docked points. Almost my entire playbook is shotgun formations (which you can only run out of so much). The only way I could keep it on the ground that much is by calling a goalline formation every play. At that point you might as well just call a knee for the rest of the half, and sorry, I want to play football, not watch my QB and Center work on the exchange.

BTW, how is trying to get a 1st down so that you can keep control of the ball and run more time off the clock considered to be poor sportsmanship? Also, I don't see the defense calling off their run blitzes or subbing in their second string.

Because EA didn't have the common sense to exclude 3rd downs from giving you negative points. It's really one of the dumbest things. Especially if your team can't run, you end up with 3rd and 15+ and the only hope to hold on to the ball is to pass, which just leads to being penalized (not literally).

And yes, it is annoying that the CPU doesn't adjust their gameplay the way you're supposed to. They still play the same way in 4th quarter as they do the entire first half. If they have a huge lead they'll try to run it up to 100. When my roommate started with his 1* team he played Hawaii who had a 95+ speed receiver who was still catching TD passes in the 4th quarter even though they were up 3+ TDs.
